Lodge History

Men of East Liverpool and Wellsville, Ohio had a desire to become Prince Hall Masons. Because of this desire they had to travel to Steubenville to the Eastern Light Lodge #64 to complete their degree work. After so many men from these towns had joined this particular lodge, they felt they had enough to form a lodge of their own. In the year 1924 the John Washington Lodge #92 recieved it's Charter from the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Ohio.

Naming of the Lodge

The brethern of East Liverpool and Wellsville decided to name their lodge after a man named John Washington. In researching the history that was passed down to them, they found that this very special man was the first African American settler in East Liverpool, Ohio. Together the brethern came to agree that the first and only Prince Hall Masonic Lodge of East Liverpool, Ohio should definately be named after the first African American settler of East Liverpool, Ohio.
And so mote it be...

Location

The John Washington Lodge #92 was originally located in the Potter Union Building in downtown East Liverpool. In the year 1960, a building was finally found that would be suitable for a lodge hall. It was then that the John Washington Lodge #92 had a home of it's own and we are pleased to say that we still have with us today, chartered members who got to see it happen. Being a small lodge, the John Washington Lodge #92 has inspired other lodges in it's district to obtain their own buildings also.
