Microsoft Software Update

All paperwork has been signed to implement the sale by Kent of Microsoft software to students, faculty and staff. What's left now is the mechanics of how to do it. The University hopes to start selling Microsoft software through some combination of the Library and Bookstore on November 1, 1999. This will be announced via the Stater and other avenues -- including a web site. This page will include a link to the web site as soon as it is available.

  • I forgot to upload the comments on homeworks 5 and 6 yesterday. You'll find them on the web site now.

  • As promised, here are 3 solutions to the BlackJack program as submitted by individuals in the class. They each have one or two problems (particularly with handling discards). But, so did my sample program. I thought you might like to see them.

    (Links removed)
Each of these is a zip file. So, you'll need PKZip or WinZip to get at them.

When you load any of these into Visual Basic, you will see a message pop up about not being able to find the module Global.bas. Click the Yes button to continue loading the program. Once loaded, click the Project menu and select Add Module, then Exisitng. Locate Global.bas on your PC and add it to the project. You should now be able to run these programs.

Don't forget, you also need to have QCard32.dll in an accessible place (I suggest C:\windows\system) to run these. You can get a copy of both by clicking here to download QCard32.zip and then extracting these files from this.

  • A zipped verions of the example in class this morning is available here. You need to download it and then run the file to obtain the project and form files that can be loaded and executed. Note, you don't have the database so it will die. However, the code is correct.

  • The original version of Qcard32.zip appears to have been incorrectly uploaded. A new version of this zip file is available by clicking here.

  • After you download Qcard32.zip, you can use either PKZip or WinZip to extract the needed files. One of these is called Vb_files.zip. If you unzip this file, you will have the sample Visual basic appllcation Dll_text.vbp. Try this out to see the types of things you can do with Qcard32.dll

  • Take a look at my program to Divide M by N and determine the quotient and remainder (Link removed) Both N and M must be positive integers. N should be less than or equal to M. If it is not, then the program swaps these two values.
