Physical properties of Earth Materials
Science progresses through the development of new methods. In my lab we are researching methods to use diffuse spectral reflectance and other electromagnetic sensing methods to address problems in the Earth Sciences and beyond. I am currently employing DSR as a stratigraphic tool in lacustrine and marine sediments. My publications document that DSR can be easily related to bulk sediment composition (% carbonate, % organic carbon, iron oxides). In my lab we are also developing methods to use diffuse spectral reflectance to estimate clay content, and to source chert and soapstone for archeological applications.
