Welcome to my website dedicated to Advanced Data Analysis at Kent State University Ashtabula Branch in Fall 07. Pictured above is me, Corey Schimpf, the primary researcher for the work described on this website. In this class a small collection of advanced students studied three major topics: computer simulations, specifically focusing on Agent Based Modeling, data mining through neural network techniques such as the Self Organizing Map (SOM), and social network analysis utilizing the program Pajek. This website documents my work with the simulation, modifying Schellings paper and coin model (for more information on this model look under the Schelling link above) for the purpose of studying Summit County as part of Dr. Castellani and Dr. Hafferty's Community Health: A Systems Perspective research. The above Schelling link contains information about Thomas Schelling and how his work inspired my own, the Summit Model link contains information about the four models I ran including pictures and observations, and finally the Summary of Results has a summary of my research and its finding.
This research helped inform class members Mike Ball and Kenny Carvalho when they began programming a computer simulation for Summit County called Summit-Sim. For more information and to download Summit-Sim, click here.
If you have any questions are or interested in my research, please contact me, Corey Schimpf, here: cschimpf@kent.edu.
