Materials: plastic straws

pictures of smokers’ lungs vs. nonsmokers’ lungs

paper/pencils to list effects of smoking

Evaluation: Prior to the lesson, ask students to talk about what they already know about smoking. After the lesson, ask them to pretend they are trying to convince a family member to quit smoking. The students should be able to site reasons mentioned in the lessons as well as mention the straw experiment.
