Joshua Mark Hissom, son of Mark and Elaine Hissom of East Liverpool, fulfilled his ambition to become a Marine just after high school. He graduated from East Liverpool High School in 2005 where he participated in golf, tennis, track, wrestling, and lettered in soccer. His passion was four-wheeling with his friends, earning him the nickname “Yellowcreek”. Many of those friends and cousins are now serving their country as Marines. (Saying “Yellowcreek” was their first basic training!)

After completing boot camp on Parris Island, SC, he was stationed at Cherry Pointe and at Camp Lejeune, NC, then at the Marine Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, CA. Joshua was deployed to Iraq on February 18, 2007 and is now stationed near Baghdad. His expertise is as a mechanic for combat vehicles, such as the Cougar, Buffalo, and the Mammoth. Joshua is one of ten Marines across the country serving in Iraq as a “Gunner” for the convoys. His artistic abilities can be seen on the wall of the dirt-bike track in Jacksonville, NC depicting the Marine Bulldog Mascot riding the first dirt-bike.
