Here is the course grade formula for calculating your grade in
invertebrate paleontology
Course Grade = (Midterm Exam)(0.15) + (Essay I)(0.15)
+ (Essay II)(0.15) + (topics, outlines, drafts)(0.10) + (Lab)(0.25)*
+ (Final)(0.20)
You can play around with scores to see what minimum you need on the
final or in the lab quizzes or lab report to get you to your target
grade. For Example, suppose you had the following grades...
Example
Course Grade = (Midterm exam 85)(0.15) + (topics,outlines,drafts 90) (0.10) + (Essay I 83)(0.15)
+ (EssayII 89)(0.15) + (lab 75)(0.25)+ (Final ? ) (0.20)
That is 66.3% before the final exam. Suppose you get an 86
on the final exam. That will give you an 84% for the course (a B).
* How to Figure your
Lab Grade for the course grade formula
There are 6 quizzes, each worth 20 points, totalling 120 possible
points. What % of 120 points did you get? multiply that by (0.25)
There are 11 in-lab assignments, ranging from
20 to 40 points, totalling 330 possible points. What % of 330 did you get?
multiply that by (0.3)
There is 1 group lab report, graded out of 100 points. What % of 100
did you get? multiply that by (0.2)There is 1 lab final,
graded out of 40 points. What % of 40 points did you get? multiply
that by (0.25)
Add them up (in-lab assignments % x 0.3) + (quizzes % x 0.25) +
(lab report % x 0.2) + (lab final % x 0.25) and put that final number into the course grade
equation
Example: Suppose you had the following grades...
earned 95 of 120 quiz points, which is 79% and (79)(0.25) = 19.7
earned 315 of 330 in-lab assignments points, which is 95% and (95)(.3) = 28.5
earned 85 of 100 lab report points, which is 85% and (85)(0.2) = 17
earned 34 of 40 lab final report points, which is 85% and (85)(0.25) = 21.2
So, total them up (19.7 + 28.5 + 17 + 21.2 = 86.4 and that is your lab
score. Put that in the course grade formula above.
