Katrin is studying lake cores in Sumatra and Thailand to look for ancient tsunami deposits. Her hope is to be able to produce a prehistoric tsunami history for Sumatra, and to use records from distal locations like Thailand and Sri Lanka to help determine which of these events is local, and which have far-reaching effects.

Katrin has also helped out on many other projects, including Monette’s work on Hurricane Katrina and on the 2006 Java tsunami. She intends another round of coring in 2007.

Katrin’s work was funded by the Swiss Science Foundation.
