Andy and company excavating a tsunami deposit from the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami in Sumatra

I’m a process sedimentologist, and most of my research involves trying to understand how coastal disasters (mainly tsunamis and storms) deposit sediments on land. In addition to providing clues on how to distinguish the ancient deposits of tsunamis and storms, an understanding of depositional processes should lead to the ability to estimate the size of ancient tsunamis and storms from their deposits.
