The Third Three Months

Dr. Lawrence listens to Alec's vitals during his six month checkup.  At six months, the median weight for boys is about 17 lbs. ... Alec weighed in at 19 lbs. 13 oz.  I thought that his car seat was getting tougher to carry each morning!  Dr. Lawrence said that we should abandon any hopes of Alec being a jockey, and that with a likely height of more than six feet as an adult, something like nose tackle is a better bet.

Cousin Peggy visited in May and got to see Alec for the first time.

Cousin Jessie also got to see him, too.  He got a lot of extra attention on this day.

Peggy's perfect touch got Alec to sleep.

Awake again a little while later, with Aunt Valerie.

Getting some unsolicited attention from two of sister Ava's classmates before their dance class started one afternoon.

Two more girls stop to check him out, and he appears to be getting more comfortable with the whole idea.

Looking for a toy that went overboard, which happens every few seconds when he's in the MegaSaucer.  He was still full of energy this evening, so I put him in the swing...

...which finally did the trick.

With Grampa John when he visited for Mommy's birthday on Memorial Day weekend.

The two boys outside a little while later.

Waiting to hear about where we'll go next on one of our walks.

An impromptu two-minute photo shoot in the front yard one afternoon...

A closer look at #4317.

That might look like a large can of powdered formula...heck, it simply is a large can of powdered formula, and an expensive one, too, but Alec can go through one can like this in about three or four days.  It's gotten a little better lately now that he's also eating some pureed infant foods like applesauce and peas.

But even all of that formula and the other foods just aren't enough sometimes, and when your parents don't give you a pacifier, you figure out another way to get what you want, kind of like MacGyver did.

Who wants breakfast?  I sometimes bring Alec into to Ava's room in the morning to help her wake up.

On Aunt Sessie's lap at lunch in mid-June.  She changed his part to make it go the other way, which we thought was funny.

Then she changed it back and gave him a kiss.

During his first visit to Grampa John's house (on Father's Day), Alec gets some help towards his first steps.

With Uncle Mark moments later.

On the floor at Uncle Mark's house later that day.

With Cousin Morgan at the end of the day.  Alec is pretending to be nice, but he's also trying to reach back to find some of Morgan's hair to pull once again.

Another first-thing-in-the-morning shot in Ava's bed, this time with Ava fully awake.

He also likes to grab for my camera whenever it's within reach, which apparently is a very entertaining game for him.  This shot also shows off two of his teeth that are coming in quite nicely, but not effortlessly...he's had a few moments of agony along the way, and, well, who wouldn't?

Investigating the goings on outside with Uncle Brian on the first day of July.

This is probably the most remarkable thing that he does, I think.  Alec will remain motionless and mesmerized whenever I put on Anoushka Shankar's performance in The Concert for George.  He might be cranky, teething, crying, fidgety, whatever...it all stops when he hears the opening sounds of her sitar.  It's like he was a musician in India in a previous life.

Target bedtime: 8:00pm.  Time of this picture: 10:18pm

And, for what it's worth, a 7½ month old boy averages 19 pounds and I unofficially weighed him earlier this day and he came in at 24 pounds, so he never hits his marks perfectly.

Getting ready for a visit to the pool at a Holiday Inn in Massachusetts in early July.  We decided (that is, I decided) that we would fly for this trip, but that wasn't such a great idea in hindsight, as Alec cried hysterically for part of each flight (Sister Ava was fine).  He's never cried that much before in any circumstance...he was saving it for us and all of the other passengers, I guess.  He was just dandy once we landed each time.

He enjoyed his first dip in a pool...no tears at all (photo by Mommy).

At her first meeting with Alec, Cousin Susie admires his sturdy feet.

A very special first meeting with Opa the same day.

The first group picture of all three Reischuck menfolk, the 1928, 1964 and 2006 versions (taken by Cousin Peggy).

Smiles and laughs with Cousin Peggy, who noticed that he'd gotten tougher to carry since she saw him about eight weeks ago.

Four of the cousins having fun on Aunt Linda's swing.

Aunt Linda admires her nephew's current girth.  I'll admit that his head is a little large, but a camera angle like this tends to make it look even bigger than it is.  And, it's a good lookin' head, so who cares!

Getting a goodbye kiss from Grammy the next day just before we had to leave for the airport.

Sharing the ride with Ava at Target on a Sunday afternoon.

The same idea the next week at Kohl's, but in separate carts this time.

Few people get so much attention doing something as mundane as eating lunch.  But this was no ordinary day....it was sister Ava's fifth birthday party.

Cousin Hannah held Alec after his brief nap.  He's still not quite sure where he is or what's going on here, I think.

Aunt Valerie Jeanne got to see and feel how many pounds he'd put on since her last visit.  Alec is looking down at the ground because of something there of interest at the end of that leash...

...Aunt Valerie's new dog, Sean.
