C-Town ends ATC's year for second straight year
July 27, 2006 - -- The C-Town Woodies (10-9, 13-10) came to play and ATC (12-9, 14-11) didn't in last nights elimination game. C-Town was playing their 3rd game in as many days and had no pitching but was able to hold ATC to only 4 runs by a pitcher who they had never seen and would go the distance in the 7-4 win. ATC could not seem to overcome the 4 spot C-Town put in the 1st inning of starter Darrin Lewis and then put up 2 more in the second. ATC did cut the lead in the 1st when Owen Donelon doubled in a run to cut it to 6-1. John Bakalar then came in to start the 3rd and did his best to keep ATC in it, allowing 1 run over 5 innings. ATC would tack on another run to make it 6-2 and then in the bottom of the the 6th West Lucas crushed a 2-run double with two outs to make it 6-4. C-Town then got an insurance run in the 7th making it 7-4. ATC then got a runner on with one out but left him stranded. Matt Trotto had a gutsy performance playing 1B with stitches still in his hand and going 1-3. This is the second straight year that The C-Town Woodies have ended The ATC Franchise year. ATC ends the year at 14-11 overall and it was a good year by some standards, but success is measured in Championships and ATC's championship drought since 2003 continues till next year, when they will make the neccessary moves to put a championship calibur team out on the field for 2007.
Winking Lizard pounds ATC...
July 24, 2006 - -- Winking Lizard (14-3) run-ruled ATC (12-9) 14-1 yesterday afternoon at Brookside. ATC managed just 3 hits on the day and commited a season high 6 errors. Matt Jurcevic was the unfortunate loser. The few bright spots were Eric Vajda's RBI single scoring Darren Lewis in the top of the 3rd to make it 8-1. Jim Conway went 1-1 with a BB and a SB, while making 2 nice grabs in LF. The second inning was ATC's downfall. Winking Lizard got on the board first with a solo home run, Jurcevic then got the next two batters and ATC seemed poised to get out of the inning but a hit started it and then a nunber of walks and then some errors in the infield and next thing it's 8-0 Winking Lizard. That inning took the life out of ATC the rest of the way. ATC now moves on to the championship game of the losers bracket and the game is an elimination game. Matt Trotto will be available despite having his stitches removing pushed back till Thursday. The game is Tuesday 6:30 @ Brookside and the opponent is TBA.
ATC dominates A's to move on
July 21, 2006 - -- What a difference a year makes. Last year this time ATC was 9-11 fresh of a 1st round win facing a tough 2nd place Cleveland A's team and lost 10-9. This year was a total 180 as ATC played great defense, got good pitching and the offense pounding out runs to take a huge 11-1 run ruling W in 6 innings aginst the Cleveland A's (8-6). John Bakalar went the distance allowing just 4 hits over 6 innings and had 7 K's. The offense piled on 11 runs on 16 hits with 8 out of 10 starters getting a hit and every hitter reaching base safely. ATC put up 3 runs in the 1st, 4 in the 2nd, 2 in the 4th and 1 in both the 5th and 6th. Jim Conway and Mike Allen each had 3 hits and 3 runs scored. West Lucas hit a bases loaded 2B scoring 3 runs. Steve Hlavac also pitched in with a pinch-hit RBI 1B. The infield played flawless with some great plays made by 3B Rob Gruss and SS Troy Matthews. ATC moves on to play 2nd Place American League Winking Lizard (Formerly Drew's Dodger's) Sunday 4:00pm @ Talty.
ATC hangs on over Muddogs in real nail bitter
July 19, 2006 - -- In the first round of the playoffs ATC was able to hold off the Muddogs (6-13) in a nerve renching game 8-6. Through the first 2 innings the game was scoreless in a dead lock pitching duel, as a ATC couldn't seem to get to The Muddgos junkball pitcher. Then in the bottom of the 3rd with two outs Rob Gruss knocked in the game's 1st run on an RBI groundout. ATC then got 2 more runs for starting pitcher West Lucas to give him a 3-0 lead. Then in the 5th ATC took advantage of some Muddog mistakes and put up a 5 spot, keyed by a 2 out 2-run single by Steve Allen to take what seemed a commanding 8-0 lead. The Muddogs jumped right back in it in the top of the 6th keyed by a 2-run 2B to cut it to 8-3. West Lucas was shut down after a high pitch count but was phenomenal going 5.1 innings allowing just 3 runs (2 earned) on 4 hits and 2 walks while tying a franchise record of 14 K's. Darrin Lewis then came in relief in the 6th to end the threat. ATC in the bottom of the 6th had runners in scoring position but couldn't get the insurance. In the top of the 7th The Muddogs never quit as they clawed their way back on 2 walks and a hit to end Lewis's night. Matt Jurcevic was then brought in with one out and the bases loaded in the 8-3 game. Jurcevic then got the first man he faced to make it two down. The next batter then hit a 2-run single to make it 8-5. He then intentionally walked the bases loaded and was taken out for John Bakalar. With no lights at Talty and it getting late, the game was getting tough on everyone. Bakalar then walked in a run on some questionable ball calls, but then got a groundout to end the threat and close the books on a 8-6 win. ATC will move on to play The Cleveland A's who beat Becky's Tavern 4-3.
West Park holds down watered down lineup
July 16, 2006 - -- The 5th place West Park Nighthawks (7-7) beat an ATC (12-9) team missing 4 starters 13-6 today at Talty. Matt Jurcevic took the lost allowing 6 runs over 4.1 innings. Trotto will be out for 10 days, and will be limited to pinch-running duties until ATC reaches the best of 3 series to try to go Youngstown. ATC turned 3 double plays to help Lewis get his 1st win, including Lewis turning one to end the game. ATC plays The West Park Nighthawks sunday 3:30 @ Talty.

Lucas was impressive allowing only 4 hits in 5 innings, but it only took 1 inning to ruin his first start. In the 5th inning Steve's Sports scored 4 runs with only 1 earned on 2 errors a past ball and wild pitch. Steve's held a 4-1 lead going into the top of the 6th but ATC would not let down putting up 2 runs on Troy Matthews getting hit with the bases loaded, Matt Trotto hit a sac fly to close it to within one but ATC couldn't muster anymore runs with the bases loaded and 2 outs. ATC drops 2nd in a row, falls to C-Town
June 30, 2006 - -- ATC dropped a critical game vs. C-Town Woodies (8-6) 5-1 last night. Once again ATC never seemed in the game and it showed as they were being no-hit until the bottom of the 5th. C-Town's left-handed ace shut down ATC's powerful offense for the second time this year and 3rd in the past two years. Mike Allen and Darrin Lewis both went down with shoulder injuries and should be day-to-day. Allen was pitching and looking sharp until the injury. Lewis was making his debut. Matt Jurcevic made his debut and had a strong showing pitching 5.2 innings allowing only 1 earned run just 1 hit and struck out 3. ATC defense had 2 lapses in the 3rd costing them a run and then in the 5th costing 2 runs. In the bottom of the 6th ATC tacked on their 1st run when C-Town made 2 errors allowing Matt Trotto to score their only run. The lost drops them to 9-6 and only 1/2 game up on C-Town for 2nd. they'll have the weekend off and play the Muddogs Thursday.
Bats quiet in rain shortened lost
June 28, 2006 - -- ATC dropped a crucial game to Steve's Sports (11-2) 4-0 last night at Talty. The game was cut short in the bottom of the 6th with ATC due up and dropped them 3 games behind 1st. John Bakalar took the complete game lost going 6 innings allowing 4 runs on 5 hits and walking 2. Bakalar couldn't make key pitches when it mattered as he got tagged with a 2-run single with two outs in the 3rd and a two-run double with one out in the 4th. ATC had their chance in the 1st when Troy Matthews got on after a single and got in a rundown with Mike Allen on 3rd. Allen took for home and was clearly safe, but was called out by the home plate ump. That was the only real threat ATC put up, as they never really seemed in the game until the rain came. The lost drops them to 9-5 and will play 3rd place C-Town Woodies Thursday 7:30 @ Gordon.
ATC takes twinbill in convincing fashion
June 26, 2006 - -- ATC took both games of it's doubleheader vs. The Black Sox to improve to 9-4 on the year. In game 1 Troy Matthews made his debut for a banged up ATC team. The 1st inning the Black Sox tagged Matthews for 5 runs to take a 5-0 lead with their ace hill on the mound. ATC then struck back in the bottom of the 2nd and put up a 4 runs to make it a 5-4 ballgame. Matthewss then settled down to pitch 4 straight scoreless innings and in need of some support. He got it in the 5th when ATC batted around a scored 7 runs and knocked the Black Sox ace out of the game to take a 11-5 lead. The Black Sox were able to score 1 more run in the top half of the 6th, but that would be the closest they came. West Lucas came in and threw smoke for 1.2 innings and has 2 K's. Matthews went 5.1 allowing 6 runs on 6 hits while striking out 4 in a solid debut. The offense continues to tear and leading the way was Steve Allen (2-3, 2B, R, 3 RBI, SB), Matt Trotto (2-3, 2B, 2R, RBI), Mike Allen (2-4, 3B, 2R, RBI) and Rob Gruss (1-3, 2R, SB).
In game 2 the story was Mike Allen who put on a Steve Nebraska type performance. He went the distance in the 10-0 win pitching ATC's first complete game shutout since 2003 allowing only 1 hit and faced 1 batter over the minimum. Allen also went 3-3 with 3B's, 2B, 3R and an RBI to led ATC. Troy Matthews had a great day at the plate as well going 2-3 with 3 RBI's and 3R's. ATC will play 1st place Steve's Sport tommorrow 6:30 at Brookside with John Bakalar taking the hill.
Also, good Luck to Owen "O Dizzle" Donelon as he leaves for Ireland on Tuesday and will return in time for The City Series. Love you Owen, who was voted in as one of the top 14 out of 15 for most beautiful. Just kidding big sexy, we'll miss you.

Owen Donelon also tossed out ATC's first runner of the year and drove in a run and scored one as well. The win was ATC's 4th in a row.
Game 2 was a disappointing lost, as ATC blew a 7 run cushion. Matt Trotto took the hill and got in trouble early but setteled down by getting a 1-2-3 inning in the 2nd and 3rd. In the 3rd he got plenty of support as the offense batted around and scored 9 runs to take a commanding 10-3 lead. Then in the 4th the Muddogs came run back as their offense batted around and put a 6 spot up to cut it to 10-9. Mike Allen relieved Trotto and pitched solid by ending what could have been a more damaging inning. He then threw a scoreless 5th. ATC's bat were unable to generate anything in 4th or 5th to keep the game at 10-9. Then in the top of the 6th ATC fell apart. The Muddogs batted around again and put up a 6 spot aided by 3 errors in the inning. Of the 6 runs only 1 was earned. The game was now 15-10 heading into the bottom of the 6th and ATC's bats awoke.
