Concessive Clauses

Concessive adverbial clauses describes action that normally would not be joined with the action of the governing clause.

WITH CUM - cum + the subjunctive can indicate concession (although it is quite rare)  (click here for other types of cum clauses).  This type of clause often has a tamen in the governing clause.

bulletcum fessi simus, tamen diligenter laboramus, "although we are tired, nevertheless we are working hard".  The action of working despite the fact that the subjects are tired.
bulletcum primi ordines hostium concidissent, tamen acerrime reliqui resistebant, "although the front ranks of the enemy had fallen, nevertheless the rest continued to resist most vigorously".
