Food Pyramids

In 1956, the USDA published a brochure titled "Food for Fitness - A Daily Food Guide". In this brochure, four food groups were recommended (Meat, Dairy, Grain, and Fruits & Vegetables). This was the 'standard' for healthy eating until 1992, when the USDA's first 'food pyramid' was announced. In early 2005, this was replaced with 'My Pyramid', which attempted to correct the flaws with earlier recommendations. In addition to these USDA recommendations, information based on nutritional research has summarized by a number of different organizations. Several of these are indicated below.
