Web Site Title: KhanAcademy

Web URL: https://www.khanacademy.org/

Brief description of the contents of the site:

Khan Academy is an educational website set up for students in grades k-12.  It has multiply subjects which an individual can choose from, but I am focusing on the math portion.  For each grade level or subject it has notes which student can read and study over.  If that isn’t enough then they can also watch a video showing how to perform problems.  Once they have a grasp on the topic they are trying to learn, there are around 4 problems that they can attempt to do.

1.  Authority with regard to topic—who is responsible for the site?:

·         Author of site (individual/institutional affiliation, organization

·         Credentials, expertise, experience

·         Contact information (name, e-mail, postal address)

·         URL type suggest reputable affiliation (.edu=educational institution; .org=non-profit organization; .com=commercial enterprise; .net=Internet Service Provider; .gov=governmental body; .mil=military)

There are 32 employees which work in the math department from k-12 material to ACT preparation.  They all have bachelor degrees related to mathematics and many have taught at school before working at Khan Academy

2.  Objectivity—is the purpose of the site clear, including any particular viewpoint?

·         Statement of purpose/scope

·         Intended audience

·         Information presented as factual or opinion, primary or secondary in origin

·         Criteria for inclusion of information

·         Disclosure of sponsorship or underwriting

The intended audience is k-12.  The information is clearly stated for students to find.  They have videos, notes to read, and practice problems to do.  I would like if they included a few more practice problems per area though.

3.  Accuracy—is the information accurate?

·         Facts documented or well-researched

·         Facts compare to related print or other online sources

·         Links provided to quality Web resources

·

All the information was accurate.  I went through and worked through some of the math problems in different content areas.  I also read over some of the notes they presented.  All the links performed really well also.

4.  Currency—is the information current?

·         Evidence of current content

·         Pages date-stamped with latest update

All the information I read was current to me.  Schools have changed the way in which they teach certain math.  I am not up to date with some of these tactics, so I am unsure for lower grade levels

5.  Usability:—is the site well-designed and stable?

·         Site organization logical and easy to maneuver

·         Content readable by intended audience

·         Information presented is error-free (spelling, punctuation)

·         Readily identifiable link back to the institutional or organizational home page

·         Site reliably accessible

·         Pages loaded quickly

Very easy to navigate through the website.  Right away it ask you if you’re a student, teacher, or parent.  Then it directs you to the material.  They break up each grade level, then divide it up even more based on the topic that is being ltaught.
