THEY WERE IN A RESTRICTED AREA

A 12 year-old boy dies run over by a train in Orihuela while crossing the rails with a group of friends .

ORIHUELA (ALICANTE).-A 12 year-old boy died last night in Orihuela after being run over by an intercity high-speed train that was serving the path Barcelona-Lorca. It happened just after the kid went to the rails along with a group of friends, according to sources from the local police and Renfe (The Spanish state railway company).

The accident occured at 9:15 pm, approximately, in the surrounding area of the station of the Alicante town, near Oleza public high school and a restricted area that pedestrians are strictly prohibited to access.

Apparently, a group of children flooded the railroad line and one of them, resident of the district of Oriolano of Ravaloche, was surprised by the arrival of the train that instantly killed him.

"It is unusual that these children were there because it is an area that is hard to access," indicated sources from the Local Police, who went with the city's National police officers to the scene of the tragedy.
