Kent State University ADA Web Accessibility Initiative and Guidelines
DRAFT 2

Purpose

This purpose of this page is to enhance and coordinate efforts at Kent State University (KSU) in web accessibility for persons with disabilities. It provides an initial set of supporting guidelines and resources to assist all web developers at KSU to create web documents that show considerations for individuals with disabilities.

"Access Considered" Guidelines

The KSU/ADA Committee affirms the importance of web page design that supports access by persons with disabilities. The W3 Page Authoring Guidelines (also linked below) provide a critical set of carefully considered guidelines for web page authors. In order to assist with the transition to more accessible web pages by University personnel, a set of "starter" guidelines has been developed. These guidelines provide a set of web authoring considerations that are relatively easy to implement and should result in web pages that offer improved access for persons with a variety of disabilities. The "Access Considered" Guidelines (Mitchell and Lilly,1999) are a voluntary set of considerations for web page authors at KSU. Pages that meet "access considered" criteria are eligible for a custom icon representing this level of compliance. Inclusion of the "A.C." icon will be based on an honor system and guidelines for inclusion of the icon.

The following are the criteria for the 1999 version A.C. status:
