Objective

Students will be able to effectively create and explain imaginative stories that go with creating their own backstories.

ODE Content Standard W.8.3 Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, relevant descriptive

details, and well-structured event sequences.

a.    Engage and orient the reader by establishing a context and point of view and introducing a narrator and/or

characters; organize an event sequence that unfolds naturally and logically.

b.    Use narrative techniques, such as dialogue, pacing, description, and reflection, to develop experiences, events,

and/or characters.

c.    Use a variety of transition words, phrases, and clauses to convey sequence, signal shifts from one time frame or

setting to another, and show the relationships among experiences and events.

d.    Use precise words and phrases, relevant descriptive details, and sensory language to capture the action and

convey experiences and events.

e.    Provide a conclusion that follows from and reflects on the narrated experiences or events.

Procedures

o   At the beginning of class, pass out idea organizer for students to outline their ideas.

o   Explain that they must use, at least, three transitions to distinguish time elapse. Use of provocative and descriptive language. Most importantly, have fun creating your own story.

o   Provide examples of stories of what they should have. Example 1. Example 2.

o   Have the students grab their Chromebook and login. They need to go to Blogger and create a new page. In the header, put “Your name Backstory”.

o   If you are having trouble getting started, use the random story generator to get the thinking juices following

o   Roam around and answer any questions.

Evaluation

Post your story to the discussion board for other students to review. Don’t be afraid of collaborating with your peers; they may have ideas on how to make your story better. After everyone is done, I will be creating a story page for their parents to see what they have created.

If you need help, go to directions page.
