This figure, in Heffermehl s opinion, fell to 13% during the last seven years. </p> <p> In his will, written in 1895, the Swedish industrialist and philanthropist, Alfred Nobel, expressed the wish that part of his fortune should be used to create five prizes, one of which is commonly called The Nobel Peace Prize. </p> <p> Entrusted to a committee elected by the Norwegian Parliament (Norway and Sweden were one country at the time), this prize is supposed to be awarded to  whomever shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses. </p> <p> In an interview with the AFP, Mr. Heffermehl, the former vice-president of the Permanent International Peace Bureau, said,  From a legal point of view, Mother Theresa was far from the idea that Alfred Nobel had of a champion of peace. Asked whether the prizes were illegitimate, he answered in the affirmative.</p> <p> Geir Lundestad, the secretary of the Committee, rejected the criticisms.  So we violated Nobel s will? In that instance, it was a case of the original sin he said as he cited the first prize in 1901, which was awarded to Jean Henry Dunan, the Swiss founder of the Red Cross. </p> <p> In the jurist s opinion, other laureates who do not satisfy the requirements for the award include Al Gore (2007), the former United States Vice President and champion of the climate change campaign, the Frenchmen Rene Cassin (1958), and Albert Schweizer (1952).</p> <p> Yasser Arafat, the Palestinian leader and the Israelis Shimon Peres and Yitzak Rabin,the joint winners in 1994, after signing the Oslo Accords, have also not found favor with Mr. Heffermehl, who insists that they are not the kind of champions of peace cherished by Nobel, who devote their lives to preventing conflicts.</p> <p> According to Mr Hefferehl, the Nobel Peace Prize has been especially adulterated after the Second World War, as a result of increasing influence of political parties and private commercial interests on the committee.</p> <p> With regard to the 2008 Nobel Peace Prize, which will be awarded on Saturday, Chinese and Russian dissidents are considered favorites. </p> </td> <td> <td align="center"><h3> Le Nobel de la paix a Mere Teresa et Al Gore illegal, selon un juriste</h3> (AFP) <p> Les Nobel de la paix attribués à Mère Teresa et à Al Gore étaient illégaux car ils violaient les voeux formulés dans son testament par le créateur de la récompense, Alfred Nobel, a affirmé mercredi un juriste auteur d un ouvrage sur le sujet.</p> <p> Depuis la Seconde guerre mondiale, seuls 45% des Nobel de la paix attribués sont conformes à l esprit et à la lettre du testament Nobel, cette proportion tombant à 13% au cours des sept dernières années, estime le juriste norvégien Fredrik Heffermehl, auteur de  La Volonté de Nobel .</p> <p> Dans son testament rédigé en 1895, l industriel et philanthrope suédois Alfred Nobel souhaitait qu une partie de sa fortune soit consacrée à la création de cinq prix, dont l un communément appelé  prix Nobel de la paix .</p> <p> Confié à un comité élu par le Parlement norvégien  la Norvège et la Suède étaient alors un seul et même pays , ce prix devait récompenser  la personnalité qui aura le plus ou le mieux contribué au rapprochement des peuples, à la suppression ou à la réduction des armées permanentes, à la réunion ou à la propagation des congrès pacifistes .</p> <p>  D un point de vue légal, Mère Teresa était très éloignée de l idée qu Alfred Nobel se faisait d un champion de la paix , a déclaré à l AFP M. Heffermehl, ancien vice-président du Bureau international permanent de la paix.</p> <p> A la question de savoir si le prix était à ses yeux illégal, le juriste a répondu par l affirmative.</p> <p> Le secrétaire du comité Nobel, Geir Lundestad, a rejeté ces critiques.</p> <p>  On aurait enfreint le testament Nobel? Dans ce cas, le péché est originel , a-t-il dit à l AFP, en évoquant l attribution du premier prix au fondateur suisse de la Croix-Rouge, Jean Henry Dunant, en 1901.</p> <p> Parmi les autres lauréats qui ne remplissent pas les critères requis selon le juriste figurent l ex-vice président américain Al Gore (2007), champion de la cause climatique, ou encore les Français René Cassin (1968) et Albert Schweitzer (1952).</p> <p> Les dirigeants palestinien Yasser Arafat et israéliens Shimon Peres et Yitzhak Rabin, colauréats en 1994 après avoir signé les accords d Oslo, ne trouvent pas plus grâce aux yeux de M. Heffermehl, qui juge qu ils n étaient pas de ces  champions de la paix chéris par Nobel, qui consacrent leur vie à la prévention des conflits.</p> <p> Selon M. Heffermehl, le Nobel a été particulièrement dénaturé à partir de l après-guerre avec l influence croissante, au sein du comité, des partis politiques norvégiens et des  intérêts commerciaux privés .</p> <p> Le Nobel de la paix 2008 sera attribué vendredi.
