To locate books in the high school library, you must use the online card catalog. You may use the catalog on several of the computers in the Library Media Center.
Once you have opened the catalog program from the At Ease menu, follow the instructions to "Enter search term then click button." You may search the following areas of the catalog by clicking the appropriate button:
Unless you are looking for a specific book about which you already have information you will use the Keyword and Subject searches most often.
For example, if you perform a Subject search on juvenile delinquency, you will be shown a list of subject headings. Select the subject heading you are interested in and take a look at the books listed under it.
One of the books found under the subject juvenile delinquency is:
| Title | Author | Call Number | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coping with street gangs | Webb, Margot | 302.3W | IN |
Select a book to learn more about it, including a note about the contents of the book. When you are ready to leave the screen for the individual book and return to your list of results, you may press the Close button on the right side of the screen. Or you may use the Previous and Next buttons to move from individual book to individual book.
In addition to the terms you are using to describe your research topic, you may pick up some other terms from the books in the catalog. For example, a search on the subject juvenile delinquency brings up the book Juvenile Justice and Injustice by Margaret O. Hyde. This book has the additional subject headings: Juvenile justice, Juvenile courts, and Law. Searches for these subject headings may bring up other books related to your topic.
