The National Association of School Psychologists (NASP), founded in
1969, is a not-for-profit organization representing school psychologists
and related professionals throughout the United States and in 25 foreign
countries. NASP is the largest association of school psychologists in the
world.
The mission of the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) is to promote educationally and psychologically healthy environments for all children and youth by implementing research-based, effective programs that prevent problems, enhance independence, and promote optimal learning. This is accomplished through state-of-the-art research and training, advocacy, ongoing program evaluation, and caring professional service.
Membership Information
There are currently over 21,000 members of NASP. The organization offers
six types of annual membership, listed briefly below.
Common Address - $85.00 (open
to those sharing an address with a regular member)
Student - $32.00 (open to those
enrolled at least half-time, and not employed full time)
International - $125.00 (open
to those eligible for regular membership, living overseas)
Retired - $40.00 (open to former
members now in retirement)
Associate Member - $110.00 (non-voting
membership open to NASP supporters)
Publications
As a member of NASP, you will receive the 32-page newspaper, Communiqué, 8 times yearly. This publication includes the latest news, events, innovative practices, legislative developments, parent/teacher handouts, book and test reviews, employment notices, and more. You will also receive the quarterly School Psychology Review - the world's second largest psychology journal - containing the best in theory, research, and opinion related to your profession. Both publications are enormously helpful in keeping students up to date in the field of school psychology! As an added bonus, NASP extends to its membership discounts on professional books, brochures and educational material. Catalogues are mailed to members, and can also be accessed via the NASP website.
Meetings
NASP holds an annual convention attended by members across the country. The convention is an exciting place to meet colleagues and discuss important issues. The convention offers a wealth of workshops, presentations and exhibits on a variety of topics. The 33rd annual NASP convention will be held from April 17th through 21st, 2001 in Washington, D.C. to those with a master's degree in psychology or with at least two years
of graduate study in psychology)

Publications
As a member of APA, you will receive the APA Monitor, a monthly newspaper focusing on current issues in the field of psychology. Membership also entitles you to a subscription to the American Psychologist, a professional journal containing research articles and special topics. Both are useful vehicles for keeping the busy graduate student current in the field of psychology. APA membership also offers discounts on subscriptions to 47 professional journals, as well as on a large collection of books, brochures, and educational materials vital to practice in today's field of psychology.
Meetings
The APA holds a national convention annually that includes presentations, workshops and symposia relevant to the current practice of psychology. The American Psychological Association of Graduate Students (APAGS) was founded in 1988 by two graduate students interested in recognizing the needs and interests of psychology students. Its purpose is to represent your needs, interests, and stake in your professional future. When you join APA as a student affiliate, you automatically become a member of this large organization - there are over 31,000 members! Along with the other benefits of APA membership, as a member of APAGS, you will receive a quarterly APAGS newsletter that contains information about current APAGS involvement and future activities. Mission Statement
The ultimate goal of all Division activity is the enhancement of the status of children, youth, and adults as learners and productive citizens in schools, families, and communities. The objectives of the Division of School Psychology are:

Membership in Division 16 entitles you to receive the School Psychology Quarterly - a useful professional journal - and a quarterly newsletter, The School Psychologist. Both publications are valuable to those practicing in the field, as well as students who want to keep abreast of current issues in school psychology. Membership in Division 16 will also provide valuable discounts on practitioner guides and informational series.
Meetings
Members of Division 16 meet annually at the APA National Convention. This year's convention will be held in Washington, DC from August 4th - August 8th.

Student Affiliates in School Psychology (SASP) is the graduate student
organization linked to Division 16. Student Affiliate Membership status
in Division 16 will automatically register you as a member of SASP. The
purpose of SASP is to create meaningful interaction among graduate students
in school psychology, so as to provide a forum for professional discussion
as well as access to an informational network.

Ohio School Psychologists Association (OSPA)
Mission Statement
The purpose of the association is to promote constructive action in meeting the educational and mental health needs of children; to encourage the writing, publication and distribution of information contributing to the extension and enhancement of the body of knowledge within the field; to provide opportunities for the professional growth of school psychologists; to encourage research relative to the field of school psychology; to contribute to promote the advancement of ethical, legal and technical standards of professional school psychology; to promote the profession of school psychology.

As a member of OSPA, you will receive The Ohio School Psychologist, a quarterly publication published by the Ohio School Psychologists Association which includes updates on legislation and committee meetings, job postings, special interests, and timely feature articles.
Meetings
OSPA holds two conferences each year, one in the fall and one in the spring. OSPA conferences offer mini-sessions, workshops and exhibits covering pertinent topics relevant to the practice of school psychology in the state of Ohio. Members are mailed conference programs and registration forms in advance.

Listserve - OSPA offers
a free service to its members in the form of an organizational listserve.
The listserve is for those members who rely on e-mail for professional
communication, and offers a convenient way to converse and share "late-breaking"
news. Messages placed on the listserve are sent to all members who are
subscribed. The listserve is a great way to find out about job openings,
current events, and to get important legislative updates. To subscribe,
send an e-mail to listproc@list.educ.kent.edu.
Leave the subject field of the message blank, and after a blank line in
the message section of the body, type: subscribe <OSPA> <your real
name>. The listserve will then send a subscription confirmation via e-mail
with information regarding the listserve address, postings, and technical
support.
OSPA Legislative Network (OSPAN)
- OSPA is an organization with considerable legislative involvement. Legislative
updates are sent out regularly on the listserve, and the efforts of Ann
Brennan have secured a network of school psychologists and legislators.

The Kent Akron Association of School Psychologists (KAASP) is one of the ten regional affiliates of the Ohio School Psychologists Association. KAASP encompasses the counties of Ashtabula, Columbiana, Geauga, Lake, Mahoning, Portage, Stark, Summit, Trumbull and Wayne.

The Cleveland Association of School Psychologists is a non-profit professional
organization serving the greater Cleveland area. It is one of the ten regional
affiliates of the Ohio School Psychologists Association.
(CASP Constitution 2.1-2.4) The purpose of this Association shall be to serve the mental health and educational needs of children. The Association shall actively promote the interests of school psychology in the schools and in the community. The Association shall encourage and promote the professional growth and the advancement of the professional standards of school psychologists by encouraging research in those areas relative in the field of school psychology. The Association shall maintain contact with state and national school psychology organizations, other organizations of similar intent, in order to provide the membership with information relative to state and national developments in the field of school psychology.

As a member of CASP, you will receive the organizational newsletter, Caspline, which includes general information, announcements, and highlights from relevant organizational meetings.

CASP holds one annual business meeting, usually in January. Special presentations and meetings are offered throughout the year, as a member, you will receive notifications in the mail.

The purpose of the organization is to present school psychology graduate students as a unified body in order to discuss issues and concerns that affect students, both professional and academic; to provide opportunities to develop and nurture leadership skills; to allow student mentorship and occasions for sharing relevant resources; to foster professionalism during training; to institute a means to affect changes within the department/program; to sponsor speakers and extra-curricular training; to establish links with professional organizations and school psychology professionals in the community; and to afford networking opportunities for school psychology graduate students.
Membership Information
Membership is open to those enrolled with a minimum of 3 credit hours as a graduate student in the school psychology program in the College of Education at Kent State University. Affiliated membership is open to those enrolled with less than 3 credit hours in the Kent State school psychology program. At this time, there are no dues for membership.
Publications
GOSPS publishes an electronic newsletter twice yearly, during the fall and spring semesters. This newsletter contains committee updates, liaison updates, and program information. Also included in the newsletter are announcements for meetings, activities, and future speakers. The GOSPS newsletter is distributed via e-mail to all graduate students in the school psychology program at Kent State University.
Meetings
GOSPS meets at least once per semester, and hosts speakers and events relevant to students training in the field of school psychology. Announcements of meeting times are transmitted via e-mail to the school psychology distribution list. GOSPS also sponsors a social events to allow students an opportunity to mingle and unwind.
