My dad went to school with Al Hirt at the Cincinnati Conservatory. I even
remember him stopping by the house when he was in town to get his horn
worked on a few times. He's not considered raw jazz, more of pop-jazz but
I always enjoyed his stuff. Especially "Java" which I think of every time
I make a pot of coffee...

Isn't that what the Chicago song "25 or 6 to 4" was about? Or at least the
title came from the fact that there were 25 or 6 national guardsmen who
gunned down 4 students?

No reply from SBC yet... keep those fingers crossed.

Joshua Hirsch (bass player from BOF) wrote me about a band that everybody
should check out. This is what he said:

And....Kevin leads a band that all four of BOF are in called Kevin
O'Donnell's Quality Six. There is a record coming out this month on Delmark
records that we made last fall. Check it out if you can find it. It is going
to be great....and there are plenty of bass, and drum, and violin, and
guitar, and alto sax, and trombone solos on it. The record is called
"Heretic Blues."

There is an article that has quotes from Katharine about the current legal

Just me" and is very good. It is the only sound clip I have seen so far.
Does either Tom or Ken play alto sax on the Jazz Squad cd????

(featuring ragtime piano player reese gray,) and harmony four (beer drinkin'
country and gospel with mathus, katherine whalen, stu cole, greg hawkes,

i'll also be playing slide dobro with the sideways alley jazz band a

Hey everybody. I'm so excited about Kathrine's shows! I'm planning on
seeing the one in Bostan on the 5th, and the Northampton show on the 6th.

I have a question though... I what is said in the article at
http://www.livedaily.com/archive/1999/9905/wk1/Squirrel_Nut_Zippers_Memb.html
accurate? It says that Katherine Whalen's Jazz Squad is opening for the
dirty dozen. Before I was under the impresion that the DDBD was openind for
Kat. Can somebody clarify this for me?

Either way... I'm going! :^)

Jess, you are very lucky you have friends in CH. I'm going to New Orleans
this summer (TO RELAX IN THE MUSIC SCENE...AND SHRIMP!) And I hope I can see
that show, or some show in Chapel Hill.

same ownership) to find out tix prices, they had no info yet. But the

Hey, yo.

I did a quickie update of Passed Out On the Landing.

czech it out at:

http://members.xoom.com/ZipperJJ

I'm so sorry for the ads...you know, Xoom was too good to let it slip
by...at least they're not popup ads like stupid Geocities.

Anyway, if nothing else, please go see Ryan's pictures of Andrew Bird in
the Andrew Bird section. he sent them to me like a month ago but i just got
around to putting them up, and he took them with a digicamera, and they
ROCK. they really capture Andrew!!!

Also on the paew list of "coming soon" things...so check out what's coming
soon. soon.

Jess
