I agree, Ryan. I can't imagine the zippers without Ken, and I was telling my
friends yesterday that it is because of the lawsuit (which is totally
ridiculous anyway). I'm sure the decision to leave the band was a tough one
for Tom, especially since his first solo album hasn't even come out yet, and
maybe he'll rejoin the zippers. Let's all keep our fingers crossed!!!

Well, I guess I'll have to spend all day today watching the Hard Rock Live
episode I taped of SNZ. Tom rolls on the ground at the end of "Hell". :*)
I saw SNZ in November, and I can't imagine going to a concert without
Tom.....It's a sad, sad day. Best of luck to Tom!

What time day and time does that come on? MTV right?

I was so mad because the only place I could ever see that video was on the
computer (where you have to squint to make every one out!)

I hope everybody writes something to Tom in the Official page guestbook
(title it Tom). Ken said that he will give them all to him, so it might help
sway him.

actually, I checked at mtv.com, and the show must not be on this
Sunday. It says the next show will be the 11th. 12 midnight eastern,
11 pm central.

Tom posted this on the official page:

"7-6-99 Hey, y'all--this is your old buddy Tom. It's true that about a week
ago I officially left the Squirrel Nut Zippers. I'm not going to discuss
details, but I will say that there is no anger or hard feelings. Basically,
all things must pass and it was time to go. What I want to tell you is that
we have been truly blessed by our fan base--you guys have been more
supportive than we could have ever imagined. Thanks so much! Everythng we
did in the way of records and performances was to try to give you the best
thing we could make. Anyway, keep your ears open, because there's still a
lot of good music to be made by myself and other Zippers. You guys rule and
stay cool!"

What does everybody feel is going to happen to the Zippers now that Tom has
left? Do you think that they will keep making records and touring? Or do you
think that with Tom gone SNZ will break up and everybody will just take the
side projects full on? (Jazz Squad, KnockDown Society, etc...)

Stacy was in the band until several months before they recorded "Hot."
Andrew Bird had memorized Stacy's trumpet parts & played with the band
filling that hole on the violin. They hired a session player when they
recorded "Hot" I had a lot recorded with Stacy and I was pretty adament that
I wasn't going to edit him out of the footage that I had shot with the band.
I did take him out of the group photo in "Hot" where they are sitting on the
steps. That took a while & was a pain.... I'm glad he's in there where he
is. I had designed a member screen for him for "Hot" which was taken out but
I put it in the "Perennial" ECD in the "Inevitable" section....

This is just my 2 cents worth but I think Sammy Hagar should replace Tom...

"What does everybody feel is going to happen to the Zippers now that Tom has

I felt, even before Tom left, that if the lawsuit kept dragging on that they
might split up and do the side projects, or even reform under a different
name.
The band by any other name would still swing as sweet, or hot, or whatever.

What do you all think of Katharine's Jazz Squad album?
I really dig it.

I say:
I was concerned about this too, so i asked Ken. I said that I thought Jim
and Kat would be the first to go because of their solo careers. But he told
me their names are the ones actually on the contract for this whole deal
(like, their names are on the boat) so they aren't going anywhere any time
soon. The last word i had from him was that "Jim, Katherine, Chris and I
are still in the band!"...i'm assuming Je and Stu are too. what else do
they have going for them? ;)

I think they will try to record w/o tom...and if their hearts aren't in it,
they will stop being a band. Like many great groups before them...The
Beatles, Kids in the Hall, Monty Python....maybe they'll quit while they're
ahead, instead of making a half-assed album.

Not that i WANT them to quit...hell no...but you gotta remember they're
people too! they gotta do what feels right.

on another note, someone asked if Je had a kid...yes i do believe that I
was told by someone before that Je has a kid. In fact when i asked someone
what all the Zippers were doing during the hiatus and my friend told me "Je
is spending time with his wife and kid"

Yeah, Je does have a kid. In his book in the PF cd-rom he talks about
spending time at home with his wife and son. He said when he tours he never
gets to be home, but when he's not touring he can be home full time.

  They help. A little.
I guess I won the "Guess Who's Quitting" Contest. Here's why:
1) I didn't know about the contract thing but I'm quite certain that neither Jimbo or Kat would leave SNZ without the other and Ken pointed out that only one member was leaving.

2) Ken, Je, Stu, and Chris, though they have some kick @$$ projects outside SNZ, it's nothing that would warrent leaving the band. Je did give me some trouble for a moment, though, because of the 'kid' posts we've been gettin (but it was just a moment).

3) Tom. I guess he's the last one left. One could make an argument for any of the Zippers (as shown in my early post-breakup e-mails) but that little voice in my head told me it was Tom. Maybe it was the Force...

P.S. the 'No Borders' kosovo benefit Cd really kicks. Most prominent kicker is Pearl Jam's 'Last Kiss' stupendous!

Sacrilege! How can you say such a thing?
Maybe half-assed for them, but if any other band would have made that album,
it would be regarded as their masterpiece.
"Hey Bulldog" alone is worth the price of admission.
That's just my opinion though. I don't think The Beatles made any bad
records.

I thought this was common knowledge among her fans.
I'm not sure of the details, but it was on a drug charge.
If I remember correctly, she started using heroine back when she was a
prostitute, before she got her big break as a singer.
I'm sure someone here will correct me if I'm wrong.

I dunno, Dave, I think Bob may have a point. Yellow Submarine had 13
tracks. 7-12 were by George Martin (who was NOT a Beatle), 13 was an
"arrangement" (more new material than old) of the song Yellow Submarine
by Martin, and two of the remaining six songs were previously realeased
on albums (Yellow Submarine on Revolver, and All You Need is Love on
Magical Mystery Tour). Total: Four new tracks, two old songs, and a
lot of work by their very talented producer. And of those four new
tracks, two were written by George (not that there's anything wrong with
that, but the ratio is a bit high compared to the other albums).

Now, admitedly, the album has always been in the background, behind Let
It Be and Abbey Road, but I think there's a reason for that.

And as to the Beatles never making a bad album... well... about half of
the stuff from the White Album really could have been removed, leaving a
solid single album. (Yeah, I know it's been said before, but it's
true!)

Making Bad movies is another thing altogether. (Exhibit A: all of them
except Hard Day's Night)

The secret backstage video that appears on the main screen of PF

You know, on April 26 '98, I went backstage before the show and met
the band. Stu told me Je and Kat were at the doctor. The dressing room
looked vaguely similar to Hartford U's Lincoln Theatre that I saw
while walking around w/ Stu.
