I'm a Professor in the Department of Geology at Kent State University. I've developed this webpage to provide a handy reference guide for statistical analysis. These web pages were first used in conjunction with "Statistical Methods for Research Scientists" (E&ES 302), a course that I developed and taught in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Wesleyan University during the Spring Term of 2000.

My primary academic interest is paleoclimatology. I use a variety of research methods to approach problems in my field from a process oriented perspective. These methods include: noninvasive sediment physical properties measurements, marine micropaleontology, carbon and oxygen stable isotope geochemistry, and statistics. I received a Ph.D. in Oceanography in 1995 from the College of Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences at Oregon State University, and a B.S. with Honors in Aquatic Biology from Brown University in 1988. Before coming to Kent State University, I was an Associate Research Scientist at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University.  I have participated in numerous oceanographic research cruises in the Arctic, North Pacific, North Atlantic, and South Atlantic, and have presented invited scientific lectures at institutions throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. My findings have been published in a number of scientific journals.
