Aidan String Quartet  

      The Aidan String Quartet formed July 2009 at the Kent/Blossom Music Festival in Kent, OH. The second violinist and violist were previously members of the Eppes Quartet at Florida State University and were recently joined by first violinist Filip Lazovski and cellist Marlene Ballena. The Aidan String Quartet is the resident graduate quartet at Kent State University studying under the Miami String Quartet. They are currently performing at Kent State University and throughout northeast Ohio.

      

Filip Lazovski was born in the Republic of Macedonia and started playing the violin at age eleven. He began his Master of Music degree in violin performance at the University of Colorado in Boulder as a Teaching Assistant to Judith Ingolfsson. He continued in the Masters Degree at CU-Boulder as a TA, while studying under Edward Dusinberre (Takacs String Quartet) and Lina Bahn (Corigliano String Quartet). Prior to attending CU, Filip lived in Rochester, New York, where he earned his Bachelor of Music Degree at the Eastman School of Music, under the guidance of renowned violinist and pedagogue Oleh Krysa. From 2001-2003, Filip was a student at the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan where he studied under Hal Grosman. Recently, Filip has accepted a position as a first violinist of the Aidan String Quartet and will be continuing his studies at Kent State University, Ohio in the Fall of ’09 pursuing a Master degree in chamber Music under the tutelage of the Miami String Quartet.  Filip is an active performer, and has given solo recitals in Colorado, Michigan, New York State, Ohio and Macedonia. He has performed as a member of several quartets, and has professionally served in opera orchestras and symphony orchestras around the United States. Filip has served as a concertmaster of the Symphony Orchestra and Opera at the University of Colorado, and has served as a concertmaster of the Interlochen Arts Academy Orchestra. In March of 2009, Filip performed Mozart’s violin concerto in A-major with the Peakharmonic Youth Orchestra in Colorado Springs.  Filip has won numerous prizes and awards in United States, Macedonia and Serbia, including the third prize at the “Fichoff” National Chamber Music Competition in Notre Dame, Indiana, (junior division) in 2003.

 

Kimberly Hain is originally from Chattanooga, TN where she began taking violin lessons at age 6.  She spent several years playing with the Chattanooga Youth Symphony and appeared as a soloist during her senior year in high school.  She received her Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Cedarville University in Ohio, and served as the concertmaster of the university orchestra for 3 years.  She received her Master’s Degree in Violin Performance from the University of Northern Colorado and also served as the concertmaster of the university orchestra for 4 years.  She is currently working on the final requirements for her D.M. from Florida State University where she studied with Beth Newdome.  She recently moved to Kent, OH, to begin working on a second Master’s Degree in Chamber Music under the coaching of the Miami String Quartet.  Along with playing second violin in the Aidan Quartet, Kim has performed in several orchestras including the Greeley Philharmonic, Fort Collins Symphony, Cheyenne Symphony, and the Tallahassee Symphony.  She was also the violin coach for the Tallahassee Youth Symphony, and strings instructor at two elementary schools in the area.  She has attended the National Orchestral Institute for 3 summers, Kent/Blossom music festival 2009, and served on faculty at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in 2007 and 2008.  

 

 

 

 


Annabelle Terbetski grew up in Tarrytown, NY and began playing the viola at age eight. She holds a Masters Degree in Viola Performance from Florida State University and a Bachelors Degree in Music Education and Viola Performance from Ithaca College in New York.  While in Florida Annabelle was a member of the Eppes String Quartet, the graduate string quartet in residence at FSU, and received coachings from Greg Sauer and Ellen Zwillich.  She was also a member of the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra and played with Sinfonia Gulf Coast.  Also a member of the Escalante String Quartet while at Ithaca College, Annabelle received coachings from Jamie Laredo, Ani Kavafian and the Audubon String Quartet.  Annabelle spent this past summer at Kent/Blossom Music Festival and has previously attended Texas Music Festival with the Eppes Quartet as Young Artists in Residence.  Currently Annabelle is at Kent State University working on her second Masters Degree in Chamber Music Performance. 

 

 

 

 

 

 


Marlene Ballena, a native of Peru, joined the Aidan String Quartet in 2009.  Previously she was a member of the Matisse String Quartet participating in the Intensive String Quartet Program at the Cleveland Institute of Music working with the Cavani String Quartet and Peter Salaff. At CIM the quartet also worked with members of the Guarneri, Julliard and Tokyo String Quartets. Before graduating with a Masters degree from CIM, she completed her Bachelors degree at University of Louisville studying with Paul York.
