Research Interests and Scholarship

My research interests focus on a core theme of social relationships in a social context.  I seek to understand the ways in which stress impacts social relationships and, in turn, affects health outcomes.  Moreover, I am interested in understanding how these processes are altered by various social contexts, such as socioeconomic status and gender.  Thus, my research over the years has covered topics including adult attachment, attributions, perceived stigma, poverty, discrimination, gender attitudes and multiple dimensions of social support.

Baby T.I.M.E. Study – I am currently in the process of conducting a study to understand how couples make the transition to parenthood.  We will be interviewing approximately 100 married/cohabiting couples who are expecting their first child.  Interviews will be conducted at the beginning of the third trimester, 1-month, 4-months, and 9-months postpartum.  Susanne Biehle (a graduate student in my lab) is the Project Director for this study.  If you have any questions about the study, please feel free to contact me or Susanne at babytime@kent.edu.
