DESIGNING YOUR PROGRAM
The Master of Liberal Studies Program is very flexible!
To design a program, sit down with the KSU graduate catalog (hardcopy or on the web) and look through the graduate courses in different departments and subject areas that interest you. Then, draw up a list of courses within the following framework:
1. Introduction to Liberal Studies (A&S 61000) (2
credit hours) and
Liberal Studies Essay (A&S 61098) (3 credit hours)
are required
2. Twelve hours minimum in coursework in the College of Arts & Sciences (does not include A&S 61000 and A&S 61098).
3. Remaining hours can come from any college or department. Twelve to fifteen hours will be in one concentration (your major).
4. Of the total 32 hours, a minimum of 16 must be
taken at the 60,000 level or higher (does include A&s 61000 and A&s 61098).
(The 60,000 number refers to the course number next
to the course description in the catalog).
In addition to standard classroom style courses, you can select up to 6 hours of internship or practicum, and up to 6 hours of research.
| Have you considered
doing two masters degrees simultaneously or sequentially?
KSU permits 12 hours of sharing between two masters degrees if you complete them simultaneously or sequentially. For example, you could explore the idea of doing a Master of Library & Information Science Degree (MLIS) AND a Master of Liberal Studies Degree. Twelve hours of the MLIS could be used towards the Master of Liberal Studies Degree, and specialty courses could then be taken in the Liberal Studies Program to enhance the MLIS Degree. |
