Project 3 – In-camera Editing

The purpose of this assignment is to demonstrate your ability to plan a video story and shoot it on tape, using the principles of in-camera editing, good technical control of the camera, and good shot composition.

Think of a simple story you can tell with pictures and the sounds that occur naturally in the location where you plan to shoot. As the camera operator, you should NOT narrate while you are shooting. Plan the look and the order of the shots so they tell the story logically and without jump cuts.

Create and shoot a slate for your videotape.

Record the shots for the story in the desired order on your tape.

The length of each shot and the number of shots are up to you. The finished project should be between 1:30 and 2:00 long.

Cue the tape to the slate before turning it in.

Turn in two pieces of paperwork with your project:

1. a shot list

2. a short critique
