The Objectively
Speaking web contains a one hour instructional module on writing educational
objectives using an instructional design approach. There are two main
components: the module itself and background information on the instructional
design process used to develop the module.
The module consists of the following:
-
"Objectively
Speaking", the script for a three-act play to be performed by students
-
A sample mind map,
to be used for guidance at the appropriate point in Act One (directions in
script)
-
Uncle
Cabac's Mind Map, to be used at the appropriate point in Act One
(directions in script)
-
A practice
exercise on writing objectives which is to be done during Act Two
-
A
rubric to be used during Act Three to evaluate the quality of the
objective that each student develops
-
Sample props: 2 copies
of the word, "Objectives"; labels to be taped to tea boxes; and the cover of a
book that can be created by the instructor. Eyeglasses, paper, markers,
colored pocket folders, and certificates of completion will need to be
supplied by the instructor.
The related information provided consists of the
following:
-
An
instructional design document providing an overview of the process and
product
-
Summary of a
learner and context analysis that
was done as part of the instructional design process used to develop the
module
-
A list of the
objectives and skills addressed by the module
-
Student
assessment information, including a pre-/post-test that can be used with
students to determine what they knew before using the module and what they
learned from it.
