Course Introduction

This course will focus on the development of prototype computer-assisted instruction and multimedia systems. It will feature self-instructional tutorials and exercises, design explorations and discussion, as well as individually selected design projects. Individual projects will be developed using advanced authoring tools and techniques. The purpose of the course is to introduce the design and development of multimedia lessons for use in a variety of educational settings to pre- and in-service educators and trainers. Please note that ITEC67432 Authoring Systems and ITEC 57403 Instructional Design are required prerequisites for this course.

Course Objectives

After completing this course, learners should be able to:

  • Identify characteristics of effective multimedia;
  • Identify instructional design and learning principles relevant to multimedia;
  • Apply instructional design and learning principles systematically to the design of
    multimedia;
  • Develop an instructional animation with Flash;
  • Author a multimedia tutorial with Flash;
  • Integrate Flash movies into web pages with Dreamweaver and Flash;
  • Describe pertinent research and design issues related to multimedia design;
    and development.

Any student desiring reasonable accommodations in the procedures used in the conduct of this class for any reason should notify the instructor at the beginning of the semester. Course Registration: It is the policy of Kent State University that students are not permitted to attend classes for which they are not officially enrolled. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure proper enrollment in classes. You are advised to review your official class schedule during the first two weeks of the semester to ensure proper enrollment. Should you find an error in your class schedule, you have until Friday of the second week of classes to correct it. If registration errors are not corrected by that date and you continue to attend and participate in classes for which you are not officially enrolled, you are advised now that you will not receive a grade at the conclusion of the semester.
