    This set is from County Laois, Ireland.
    First Couple:  Unless so designated by a caller or local custom, each set-of-dancers must
              establish which couple will dance as First Couple .
    Chain:  at waist-height, ladies give right hands to one another in the center then give
              left hands to the opposite gent (who has danced into his partner's place);  dance
              around the gent to home (no arch); ladies do not chain on the way home.
    Steps:   Figures One and Fourdance an ordinary, but lively, polka step (down-2-3).
             Figure Two    For this figure only, all begin on the right foot for advance and
             dance right (in) 2-3, left (in) 2-3 then right-heel-toe-down (out), left-heel-toe-down
             (out), retires; right-heel-toe-down (out) then left-heel-toe-down (out); except for
             swings, dance the preceding step.   Figure Three    dance ordinary hornpipe
             steps (lift-2-3-4, batter-2-3 and double).
    Swing in waltz hold.
    Gents begin forward on the left foot and ladies begin forward on the right foot.
    Bar counts (quantities of measures) for patterns are shown in bold.
    The total bar count for each Figure includes an eight-bar introduction of music.

  SET FORMATION   FIGURE 1 -- POLKAS (120 BARS)
Both couples: long body:  in waltz hold, balance in and out once dancing a lively step (see
         steps in heading)4; dance one clockwise turn to the next position on
         the right2; dance on-the-spot2; repeat the preceding eight bars
         three times to re-establish home positions24;
swing in waltz hold6; dance-out facing into the set2;
ladies chain (see chain in heading)8;
advance and retire once, holding right hands4;  crossover anticlockwise to
         opposite as the lady makes two high-handed clockwise turns4;
repeat the two lines above to home8;
REPEAT "MARKER" as the ladies dance in-place, gents dance back-to-back in the center
          (begin right-shoulder-to-right)6;
dance on to the opposite side and take sweetheart hold with new partners2;
lead around to the next position on the right2; dance on-the-spot2;
lead around to the next position on the right (the gents’ home)2;
pull-the-right-hands to waist-level and face-in while dancing on-the-spot2;
repeat from   REPEAT "MARKER"    with gents dancing with their original partners16;
advance and retire twice, holding right hands8;
swing in waltz hold6; dance-out facing into the set2.
  SET FORMATION   FIGURE 2 -- JIGS (128 BARS)
Both couples: take hands in a circle and advance and retire once (see steps in heading)4;
continuing the step, couples take open waltz hold and dance the step while
          turning to face anticlockwise4;
dance one position to the right2; dance on-the-spot2; dance on to the next
         position on the right2; form a hand-holding-circle2;
repeat the preceding sixteen bars16;
holding inside hands, advance and retire once4; first couple arch and
          second couple dances under the arch as both couples pass through
          and turn-in to-place at opposite4;
repeat the preceding four-bar patterns except second couple forms the
          arch as couples pass through to home8;
REPEAT "MARKER" holding inside hands, advance and retire once4; gents crossover right-
          shoulder-to-right-shoulder and face the opposite lady4;
swing6; form a straight line with each couple in open waltz hold facing
          anticlockwise while still dancing the step2;

lead around to the next position on the right (the gents’ home) and face-in while
          dancing on-the-spot4;

Both couples: in waltz-hold, dance one clockwise turn at home4; gents dance right and

face new partner and stamp then clap (batter-2-3, clap-clap-clap)2;
repeat the preceding four-bar patterns until all are at their original home24;
REPEAT "MARKER" in waltz-hold, dance one clockwise turn at home4;
as ladies dance in-place, gents crossover left-shoulder-to-left-shoulder2;

REPEAT "MARKER" Pass through (ladies in the center) and turn in to one another at opposite4;
line-of-four in the center with gents dancing anticlockwise to be beside opposite
         lady; gents take left-hand-in-left-hand with opposite lady in front and
         right-hand-in-right with their partner over the opposite lady’s shoulder4;
         line-of-four dance a half-turn to face the gents’ position4;
gents release partner’s hand and new couples dance anticlockwise to the gent's
         home; pull-the-hand (right) to waist level4;
repeat from   REPEAT "MARKER"    to respective homes16;
advance and retire, holding right hands4; advance; the second lady gives her
         left hand to the first gent, they form an arch and she dances clockwise
         under the arch, ending beside him and all retire (first gent holds the ladies’
         outside hands but  the second gent does not take hands initially)4;
trio-plus-one advance and retire once4; advance; the second gent grasps the
         ladies inside hands underneath, pulls up/out (one lady turns clockwise, the
         other anticlockwise under an arch) and the ladies turn in beside him and
         all retire4;
trio-plus-one advance and retire once4; advance; the first gent grasps the
         ladies inside hands underneath, pulls up/out (one lady turns clockwise, the
         other anticlockwise under an arch) and the ladies face-in and all form a
         circle-of-four in the center4;
