    This set is from County Down, Ireland and was typical ballroom-dancing
              during the early 1800s.
    Partners should acknowledge (bow/curtsey) one another then their corner-partners during
              the introduction of each Figure.
    Tempo:   the speed of the music should be moderate to slow.
    Steps:   all steps are to be danced gently with absolutely no battering;  except as shown below,
              the ordinary polka and jig step is to be danced throughout the set – down-2-3.
    Swing in waltz hold.
    Gents begin forward on the left foot and ladies begin forward on the right foot.
    Bar counts (quantities of measures) for patterns are shown in bold.
    The total bar count for each Figure includes an eight-bar introduction of music.
    First side couple is on the right of the first top couple.
    Documentation is based upon a workshop taught by Pat Murphy at Milwaukee,
             Wisconsin USA in July 1997.

  SET FORMATION   FIGURE 1 -- POLKAS (104 BARS) 
Top couples: REPEAT "MARKER" first top lady and the second top gent advance to the center and
          swing in waltz hold6; reverse to-place2;
pass through, with first top couple in the middle; at opposite, first top couple
          turn out and second top couple turn in to face their respective homes4;
pass through to home with second top couple in the middle4.
All couples: swing corner-partner in waltz hold (gents face left, ladies face right)6; 
          reverse to place2.
repeat from   REPEAT "MARKER"   with second top lady and first top gent, first side lady and
          second side gent, then second side lady and first side gent leading72.
  SET FORMATION   FIGURE 2 -- POLKAS (136 BARS) Dance in a gentle, near-walking style.
Top couples: REPEAT "MARKER" take right-hand-in-right and advance2; 
face-out and retire, still holding right hands2;
partners change places twice, still holding right hands, by turning anticlockwise
          once then by turning the lady under anticlockwise to-place4;
swing in waltz hold8.
All couples: form two four-facing-four lines (sides join their respective top couple) and hold
          inside hands; lines advance and retire twice dancing 1-2-3-kick on the
          advance and 1-2-3-cross in-front on the retire8;
swing original partner in waltz hold8.
Top couples: repeat from   REPEAT "MARKER"   32.
Side couples: repeat from   REPEAT "MARKER"   64.
  SET FORMATION   FIGURE 3 -- JIGS (72 BARS)
All ladies: advance and retire once (no-touch), dancing 1-2-3-kick when advancing
          and 1, kick, 2, kick when retiring4.
All gents: advance and take uncrossed-hands with the opposite gents (top gents’ hands
          above side gents’ hands)4.
All couples: ladies link arms with partner and the gent on her right; big Christmas clockwise
          twice (two revolutions to the left)8.
All ladies: advance and retire once, as above4.
All gents: advance and retire once; join left hands in the center (wheel) and place right arm
          on their partner’s waist behind4.
All couples: lead around anticlockwise8.
All ladies: advance and retire once, as above4.
All gents: advance and take uncrossed-hands with the opposite gents (top gents’ hands
          above side gents’ hands), as above4.
All couples: ladies link arms with partner and the gent on her right; big Christmas anticlockwise

lead around anticlockwise with a gentle or light march step; gents hold left hands
          in the center and place right hands on their partner’s waist behind8;
REPEAT "MARKER" ladies dance to the next gent on the right2; swing6;
lead around, as above, but with new partners8;

All couples: REPEAT "MARKER" chain and line-up; gents dance anticlockwise and ladies dance clockwise;
          partners meet at opposite (right-hand-in-right) and pause, acknowledging
          one another for two bars; chain to home and line-up behind the first top couple,
          with ladies in front   (order:  first top, first side, second side, second top)16;
take uncrossed hands at the lady’s shoulders and dance in-place (all dance left-down,
          2, 3 then right-down, 2, 3 four times)8;
files (all facing the same direction with each dancer behind the dancer to his/her
          front) side-step with gents dancing to the right and ladies dancing to the
          (dance 1-2-3-close,1-close, 2-close)4; reverse the side-step direction
          left then the lines face and grasp inside hands4;
first top couple take inside hands and promenade (march, walk) between the lines 4;
          turn into one another, change hands and promenade to home4;
the lines, holding inside hands, advance and retire twice (dancing 1-2-3-kick when
          advancing and 1, kick, 2, kick when retiring)8;
all march to-place2; swing original partner6.
repeat from   REPEAT "MARKER"  with the second top couple then the first side couple then the
