LOUVAIN  SET

	This set was composed February 9, 2006, by Jim Keenan.  The set is also known as
	THE FLIGHT OF THE EARLS.
	All couples dance all the time during the set.  That is, couples only  stand   during the
	eight-bar introduction of each Figure.
	Swing in elbow ceili hold in Figures 1 and 3:   Partners grasp right thumbs at shoulder-
	height and place left hands under the right elbows;  position of feet and
	swing action are the same as those of the waltz, hug or ceili hold swing — keep
	the ball of the right foot much like a pivot point and push around one another
	with the left foot.
	Swing in waltz hold in Figure 2.
	Gents dance forward on the left foot and ladies begin forward on the right foot.
	Bar counts (quantities of measures) for patterns are shown in bold.
	The total bar count for each Figure includes an eight-bar introduction of music.

FIGURE 1 -- REELS (144 BARS)      BATTLE

	Dance the ordinary reel step, lift-2-3-4, in a lively manner.
All couples:	advance and retire twice, holding crossed hands in front (rights on top)8;
	gents:  pinwheel clockwise — dance while ladies chain:
	tops join right hands while sides also join right hands (tops over sides)6;
	dance facing into the center and form a circle of four2;
	little Christmas6; retire to home2;
	ladies:  chain around the set — dance while gents pinwheel and little Christmas:
	tops dance clockwise and sides dance anticlockwise;
	give right hands and dance to the next position2;
	dance in-place2;
	give left hands and dance to the next position (opposite)2;
	dance in-place2;
	repeat the preceding eight bars to home8;
	swing in elbow ceili hold (see heading)8.
	tops and the couple on the left :
	house around each other, holding crossed hands (rights on top)6;

	little Christmas; the gents join left and right hands crossed in the center;
	the ladies grasp the gents' arms by bringing their hands under and up
	inside the gents' arms; the ladies thus hold their partner’s right arm with
	their left hand and the opposite gent's left arm with their right hand6;

	tops and the couple on the left continue to dance :
	pass through (ladies on the inside) then partners pass left-shoulder-to-left
	shoulder to-place (gents turn clockwise and ladies turn anticlockwise
	when dancing to-place)4;

FIGURE 2 -- REELS (192 BARS)     THE JOURNEY

	Dance both the ordinary reel steps lift-2-3-4, and sevens,
	1-2-3-4-5-6-7, in a lively manner.
All couples:	lead around holding crossed hands in front (rights on top)6;
	dance to face the opposite direction (pivot, keep hands at waist level, gents
	remain inside the set)2;
	lead around to home; partners face with gent still inside the set8;
	swing in waltz hold8;
	chain around the set; begin right-in-right with partner and gents dance
	anticlockwise and ladies dance clockwise12;
	dance at home in waltz hold (one revolution)4;
	dance sevens square around the house:
	in waltz hold, with gents facing out of the set, dance to the first
	position on the right2;
	turn clockwise so gents then face into the set and dance sevens
	to the next position on the right (opposites)2;
	repeat the preceding four bars to home4;
	full house in waltz hold8;
	as gents dance in-place, ladies give right hands at shoulder height in the center

	Dance both the ordinary hornpipe step, lift-2-3-4, and sevens,
	1-2-3-4-5-6-7, in a smooth, flat style.
All couples:	dance sevens in and out of the set once, in waltz hold4;
	dance at home (still in waltz hold, one revolution)4;
	in waltz hold :
	dance sevens in and out of the set once4;
	dance to the next position on the right making two revolutions4;
	repeat the preceding patterns three times to home24;
	high gates and change partners [under-the-arch order: partner, visitor, partner] :
	top couples take inside hands and the gent takes the side lady's right
	hand in his left hand; gent and side lady form and arch and the top lady
	dances under and the gent follows; top couples form an arch and the
	side lady dances under and the gent follows; gent and side lady again form
	an arch and the top lady dances under but the gent does not follow;
	top lady dances to-place beside the side gent and the side lady dances
	to-place beside the top gent (ladies change partners)8;
	repeat from        except — side couples, then the top couples then the side
