February 2, 2006 On my roadtrip today to columbus, I stopped by Tandy Leather and picked up the Drinking Horn.

February 14, 2006      Last night I sanded the horn down to 600 grit. It came milled, so it was pretty rough. I started at 320 grit and worked my way down. It feels so nice and silky now. Only problem is, being a natural product, there were some small imperfections and cracks that didn't quite sand out. Part of it nags at me, and part of it I accept as the character of the material. It's the Virgo in me. I'm not entirely sure what I'm going to do next. Originally I had planned to paint a celtic design onto the horn before I sealed it. But after having sanded it down, I think the color is absolutely beautiful, and I'm sort of loathe to paint it. What I'd really prefer to do is put a silver rim and cap on it, maybe a few bezel set cabochons, something like that. But I'll have to figure out how to do it, and then do a practice piece. I'm thinking I'll go up to tandy in cleveland sometime soon and pick up some less attractive horns to practice on. I might even be able to come to some kind of arrangement with them that I can get a few broken pieces at a major discount, for me to use as experimentation material.

June 29, 2006 I picked up a couple more cow horns, one to practice some new techniques with, and the other to make into a drinking Horn that I plan to donate to the BTW Auction.
