The following guidelines have been taken and condensed from the Campus Emergency Guide and are offered as a quick reference to “emergency situations.” Please take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with these procedures and the location of emergency equipment. By knowing what is required prior to an incident, you will save time in responding to the emergency situation. There are no rules or guidelines that can serve as a substitute for good judgment. When uncertain, remember to error on the side of safety of students and staff. All campus-related incidents, including but not limited to accidents, injuries, vandalism, suspicious behavior, theft, etc., must be documented on an incident report form and submitted to the Business Office. |
DON’T PLACE YOURSELF IN DANGER
In cases of emergency, the safety of students and staff must be the primary consideration. Decisions regarding the assistance of others and/or the protection of property must be made with safety in mind, to include possible evacuation, moving to a safe location (shelter-in-place), or reacting/responding to some other emergency or threatening situation. Instead of placing themselves in danger, employees may assist by assuring that trained professionals are summoned to respond to the emergency at hand.
POWER OUTAGE
Note that the battery-operated security lights will remain on for only 30-40 minutes after power is disrupted. If the power is not restored within the first few minutes: · Determine, with maintenance, if the outage is local (building only) or campus-wide. Contact American Electric Power if necessary. · Daytime-classes may continue for a period of time unless health, safety, or instruction is negatively affected. · Evening-faculty and students are to leave the building if power is not immediately restored. Administration and staff will remain on duty to communicate the status of the outage and to secure the building, if necessary. · Elevators should not be used. · Notify the Dean’s office (77416) regarding any decisions to be made.

CLASS CANCELLATION PROCEDURES
Any decision to cancel classes (or to close the university) will be announced through the Dean’s Office. When the Dean makes the decision to cancel classes for a partial or full day due to emergency conditions: · Radio and television stations (see list below) will broadcast the cancellation. · KSU FlashAlert on your cell phone will send a message · Unless otherwise specifically noted, all other university services will continue as scheduled and appropriate personnel will report to work.
