Metre: Alcaic strophe
2. linguis: i.e., by keeping silence.
3. sacerdos: in apposition to subject of canto.
5. regum timendorum: sc. imperium est;
  timendorum: Gerundive, "to be feared", i.e., "fearsome";
  in proprios greges: "over their own flocks (of people)".
6. reges in ipsos: "over the kings themselves".
7. triumpho: Ablative of Means dependent on clari.
8. moventis: modifying Iovis.
9. est ut: Substantive Clause of Result, "It is that...", i.e., "It happens that...";
  viro: sc. altero; Ablative of Comparison.
10. hic... hic (line 12): "this man... that man".
13. illi: "for (yet) another; Dative of Possession.
17. ensis: Subject of pendet;
