C. 190 bce Originally set on the hill igh above the city of Samothrace to be drenched by a fountain, this balance is forward balanced by the huge wings behind. The large light and dark contrast and the contrasting textures give it a god-like feeling. It is thought to symbolize an important naval victory because its original stone base at the front of a ship.

Live Impressions:

Huge base that looks as if it was cut right off the corner of the building that it lay. The head is gone but it still retains a huge amount of emotion and power. The cloth carving is beautiful. The stone color is a burnt toast color. The physic is large, bulbous hips and very busty. The fertile image of a woman for the victories of war. Less realism, emphasis of drama, obvious to point the way
