Research Activity 3

Assignment:

  1. Go to Cleveland State University Library’s web page
  2. Click "Electronic Journal Center." (If you do this from off-campus, you will be directed to enter your name and CSU ID number. Do so, and you’ll be in).
  3. 1. Click EITHER "Arts and Humanities" OR "Social Sciences"
  4. Select any journal from the list that looks interesting to you.
  5. Go into any issue. Record:
  6. Select any full-length article (meaning, over 10 pages) that looks of interest to you. Record in MLA or APA form: (1) the article title, in quotation marks, (2) the author’s name, and (3) ALL of the page numbers (for example, pp. 3-15. Do not just write, "p. 3")
  7. Click the article’s description. YOU DO NOT NEED TO CLICK THE "PDF" or full article
  8. From the article’s abstract, write 2 or 3 key words or phrases that are used (for example, "affirmative action," "voter registration," "U.S. Supreme Court"). If no abstract is provided, either choose a different article or click the full-text version, and get your key words and phrases from the 1st or 2nd paragraphs
  9. Click "View Citations and Citing References." Record any TWO (2) cited sources given. If no citations are given, you will have to choose a different article (or journal) that does give citations
  10. Exit "Electronic Journal Center" and go back to the Cleveland State University Library’s web page
  11. Click "JSTOR" (NOTE: If you do this from off-campus, you will be directed to enter your name and CSU ID number. Do so, and you’ll be in).
  12. Click "Advanced Search"
  13. Do EITHER an author search of one of the cited references (from step #9 of this assignment) OR type in one or more of the key words/phrases. Do an author or abstract search for "Article" only.
  14. Record in MLA or APA form any TWO (2) articles that you get (this means recording the author’s name, article title, journal title, volume and issue number, date, and page numbers).
  15. Write a 2-3 sentence description for EACH article you got from JSTOR.
