This book has been published for us and is missing the advanced chapters that we will not be covering in class. If you want to purchase the entire book with CD on the web, feel free to do so. This course will be managed through WebCt Vista and exams will be taken using PH Grade Assist.
Bundled with your text is an Exel Add-In that provides advbanced statisical tools. We will be demonstraing this through the semester and I recomment that you learn how to use it. It can be used when taking exams and quizzes. If you are working in the College of Business computer lab, you will have to install the software every time you work in the lab.
As we will be using the computer extensively outside of class it is your repsonsibility to assure that the computer you are using in running an appropriate browser and has the required plug-ins. Both WebCt Vista and PHGrade Assist have a browser check that should be run anytime settings on your computer may have changed. I recommend that you run PHGrade Assist browser check prior to taking any exam.
This course provides many learning strategies to help you learn the coruse material. As a student you must understand your individual learning style and determine the method or methods that work the best for you.
The text provides a different presentation of the same material and offers additional sample problems. Many find the text is difficult to read (after all, it is a mathematical text) but will help to supplement the material presented in class.
Homework questions will be recommended but not collected. For some, the problems assigned are enough to understand the material. Others may find that they need additional problems to solidify their understanding of the material. There are many problems available in the text and there is some additional support provided online by Prentice Hall's OneKey system. To learn statistics you must do statistics.
In addition, copies of the PowerPoint Presentations used in class are also available on line. These may be modified throughout the semester. However, I recommend that you print these and bring them to class to assist in your note taking.
Missing class is not an excuse for failure to understand material or complete assignments. Material covered in class will not be covered again outside of class. It is up to you to read the material and get notes from another student if you miss class. Do not expect any special help or privileges if you do not attend class regularly.
The value of the class and the ability to ask meaningful questions depends on thorough pre-class preparation. You are encouraged and expected to ask questions.
There will be 9 quizzes and 3 examinations. All quizzes and examinations will be taken online. Quizzes will be administered through WebCt and will be multiple choice and true/false. The examines will be adminstered through PHGrade Assist and will be multiple choice, true/false and short answer. The quizzes and examinations can be found at the course web site, and can be taken from anywhere the student has access to the Web. All quizzes and examinations are open-book, open notes. It is considered cheating if you ask other students to help you while taking the examinations or quizzes.
Exams will cover 3 chapters each. They will be available for up to 4 days.
As a warning, please do not wait until the last minute to take your quizzes and examinations. As I am sure you are aware, when dealing with technology several things can and will go wrong. The only condition under which I will extend the dues dates is if the server goes down on the last available day. Any problems with your computer will not change the due date. A such, it is your responsibility to ensure that you complete the tasks in a timely fashion. You will get zero (0) points for any missed quizzes or examinations. There are NO make-ups.
Please ensure that your examinations and online quizzes have been graded correctly and notify the instructor immediately of any concerns. Please use the e-mail address on the front of this syllabus, missives@sharenbakke.com.
If you do not want to take the examinations online, please let me know. I will provide an equivalent paper copy of the examination. The format of this examination will be similar to the online version.

Academic honesty is expected and required. HELPING fellow students is acceptable. COPYING IS NOT acceptable, and will result in loss of credit for the assignment, and possibly failure of the course for all students involved. If you give help to another student, then it is your responsibility to make sure they fully understand the concepts.
If copying is suspected, both (or all) students involved will receive zeros for that assignment at the least, and possibly a failure for the course. DO NOT GIVE OTHERS YOUR WORK .
Please consult with an academic advisor in the Undergraduate Programs Office (Room 107, BSA -- 330-672-2872) if you are having academic difficulty.
This course uses WebCT's Vista to organize and present online content. Vista allows the instructor to provide a comprehensive solution to presenting online content and student management. In addition the student is able to track their progress, interact with fellow students through chat and e-mail, and even make online presentations. The following pages give a brief introduction to Vista for your course.
Everyone needs a User Name and password to log on to WebCT. They are the same as the ones used for your KSU Flashline account. The User Name and password are case-sensitive in Vista. That means it make a difference whether you use capital letters or not.
