Who am I?

This is a very difficult question.....Do I really know who I am? Let's see....

  • I am a citizen of the world. I love to travel and learn about customs and traditions of the countries I have been visiting.
  • I speak Italian (perfect), English (second language), French (better in the past than now!). I communicate in Spanish just by using some Italian dialects and, of course, my hands! We had some interesting discussions with some Spanish researchers once, each speaking his tongue! I understand Latin (thanks to my daughter I am refreshing it now!) and a little bit of Ancient Greek (just what is left from my 5 years of classical studies!). People say I speak fast (they should see my brother!) and use my hands a lot....just like any Italian!
  • I love to cook ... I am talking about real cooking! Good Italian food, home prepared every single day. I am an expert in homemade pasta, from "gnocchi" to "fusilli" (the version from Campania. There are many versions, almost one per region!), to "cavatielli", "orecchiette", "strascinate" (to cook with the "cime 'e rapa", i.e. the rapini!), "lasagne" or  "lagane" (delicious with the garbanzo beans!). Are you interesting in learning? Just let me know and I will be glad to show. This is a precious tradition which must be passed to other generations...
  • I am a good mom (at least I hope so) and I love my husband. We have a wonderful family and we love to spend time together at the ocean beach whenever the weather allows. You wonder where the ocean beaches in Cleveland....are well, we have to be patient and wait for longer weekends when we can sneak out to our favorite spot in Delaware! I was born in a Mediterranean town on the sea surrounded by mountains....5 minutes to walk to the beach, 1 hour driving to go skiing!!! Spoiled....wasn't I? "La bella vita" is definitely an Italian living style!
  • I love to embroider. I am talking about serious embroider stitches, not just cross stitch! I like to knit and I can do it while I am watching television because I do not need to look at the needles while I knit. I can do almost anything with a couple of needles and a couple of balls of yarn! I love to sew, I can do tough things but I cannot consider myself an expert...I am just creative, a self learner, and I am not afraid of bad results. My first serious project was the shirts for my Ancient Music Group "La Stanza di Musica Antica Carlo Gesualdo" were I used to play while I was 19. The great success of the shirts was followed by a greater project to sew Renaissance dresses for the whole group, which was composed by 10-14 people according to the concerts. That was a very interesting project. I had to study quite a bit before sewing some very nice dresses without committing historical errors. They very inspired by the dresses of Caterina de' Medici which I happened to see in one of my trips to France. I always had the compliments of the people for the result and I feel very proud of that job.
  • By now you might have guessed that I love music as well....that's true. Not only Ancient Music, which I wish I could still play (I have no time!...sigh). I like Classical Music, Modern Music, Soft Jazz, Rock Roll.... I like to play the piano (just for myself, do not ask me to perform...I will say "NO"), and I love to play the flute and the recorders (I prefer the baroque to the german).
  • I hate to run, do gyms or any sport in general that pushes my breathing to the limit, but I love to walk for hours and hours. I wish the weather would be more cooperative in Ohio.
  • I am Catholic and I strongly believe in God. My favorite Saint? St. Francis of Assisi. Have you ever been to Assisi? You should go there and wake up at 5 o'clock in the morning and walk to the Church of  S. Damiano for the "Lodi del Mattino" (the Morning Hours Liturgy) and pray singing with the brothers of the convent. I do not think there is any other experience more touching than that....it is impossible to describe by words! Try to believe..
  • I am a difficult person to live with...I am too serious sometimes....but I am very social and I love to be with people!
  • May be I am not what I think I am....ask who knows me ... you might get a different version....
