Professor Reischuck's Highly-Opinionated Movie List - Like other people, I've decided that the essential problem with the "100 Greatest Movies" list compiled by the American Film Institute (c. 1999) is that it wasn't my list. So here's something to correct that--a highly opinionated list of films that will change your life--at least for a few minutes.  There aren't 100 here, and I know that it hasn't been revised much in the last few years, but I feel better having done this, if only for the fact that if one of these movies comes up in a lecture, I can just say "see the list."  If you prefer your movie reviews to be exactly seventeen syllables over the course of three lines, check out the splendid Haiku Movie Reviews, done by committee.

Art Historians' Guide to the Movies - By Dr. Craig Eliason at the University of St. Thomas.  Beware, as some of these references appear only briefly and are often buried within incredibly dull films, but some of us Art Historians get all giddy when we spot something from our field in an unexpected place.

  The Onion - Irony and cynicism until it hurts.  Maybe it's not as funny as it was a few years ago when it seems that it was known only to elite band of misanthropes, but it's still worth visiting. The Onion is an irreverent and sometimes morbid faux weekly newspaper that gives the obscure and obscene a veneering of legitimacy. The double-take headlines are often hilarious ("Area Woman To Get By On Looks For Six More Years," "Georgia Adds Swastika, Middle Finger to State Flag," "Squirrel Remembered as Impulsive, Indecisive," "World Death Rate Holding Steady at 100%," etc.). But with the web these days, anyone with a PC and some spare time can publish something that at least looks legitimate at first. Once you master that, there's also almost no end to the mischief you can instigate. 

  The Janus Museum - Another faux site....I think...I hesitate only because I came across this in a listing of actual photography museums on the East Coast.  I think someone wasn't looking to closely.   I didn't like Forrest Gump too much, but this site shows how that concept can still be pretty funny, if not even more believable, in the hands of an intelligent author.  By the way, the illustrious Mr. Janus himself saw that I had included this link and wrote to me in person recently to express his gratitude.
