The purpose of this workshop is to guide students for twelve days in the city of Rome, Italy, where they will visit some of the most important ancient sites in the Eternal City, as well as Ostia, and Pompeii. Through numerous lectures and site visits, the students will learn about Roman history, archaeology, and life in the ancient world. Students also will learn about modern Italian culture.
Prerequisites: There are no course prerequisites for students wishing to receive college credit for this workshop. The trip itinerary has been designed to provide students without previous background in Roman history, archaeology, or Latin with an introduction to the Roman world. All students who will be attending, however, must read John Stambaugh’s The Ancient Roman City before their departure.
