Metadata Librarian

University of South Florida

9/2015-Present

Manage university libraries’ metadata through complex cataloging projects, XML technologies, and various programming languages while creating best practices and documentation. Develop and implement a variety of digital projects to manage metadata and big data in addition to creating interactive methods for library users to access and interact with information and resources.

Metadata Management: Utilize XML, XSLT, XPROC, JavaScript, and MarcEdit to manage largescale data in .mrc, .xml, .dat files. Create templates and constant data for cataloging staff and student workers.

ILS Migration Implementation: Participate in FALSC's statewide ILS Implementation Group and Discovery Configuration Working Group to oversee the preparation and transition from Aleph ILS to Sierra. Conduct catalog clean up projects to prepare catalog for migration. Train staff for new ILS.

Textbook Affordability Ebook Database: Create and standardize metadata for ebook database for faculty and students. Assist in the design and creation of the database, which contains more than 1 million ebooks and textbooks.

Electronic Theses and Dissertations: Developed scripts to combine Proquest Metadata, transform Proquest metadata to Bepress, then transform Bepress metadata to MARC XML for the catalog. Script automates the addition of quality control, ETD urls, and LCSH. ETD bibliographic records and their item + holding records are generated and loaded through a Genload profile.

Automated Quality Control of Vendor Records: Developed a series of scripts to flag various errors in the content and encoding of vendor supplied MARC records.

Catalog Clean-up: Run reports in the ILS to determine which records require clean-up. Crated scripts that address and correct catalog issues, ranging from missing or incorrect links, encoding errors, improving records, etc. Withdraw catalog records throughout the weeding process.

Special Collections Metadata and Cataloging: Cataloged Special Collections materials for the Boucicault Collection. Created MARC templates and constant data for student and staff. Generated metadata for the Boucicault Collection’s webpage.

Cataloging: Create original records and copy catalog following AACR2 and RDA in OCLC Connexion and Aleph.
