Topics include form letters, merging, financial functions, amortization schedules, data tables, creating and querying a worksheet database, templates, creating customized reports and forms in Access, Switchboard Manager, embedded visuals, and modifying visual elements and presentation formats in PowerPoint.

Prerequisite: COMT 11000 or equivalent knowledge.

Texts Required: Microsoft Office 2003: Advanced Concepts and Techniques Shelly Cashman Vermaat (ISBN: 0-619-20025-1)

Textbook Web Site: www.scsite.com/off2003/

Supplemental Materials Required: Two or more 3˝" HD Diskettes and/or CD-RWs which are in a protective case clearly labeled with student's name.

Course Requirements: Students are expected to attend class regularly, be on time, and have all assignment prepared prior to class. You are encouraged to read materials ahead in order to get the most out of class discussion and lab work.

Attendance Policy: Regular class attendance is necessary to gain the full benefit of the course. Students are expected to attend class regularly and be on time for each class. A record will be kept. An excessive number of absences will be reflected in your final grade.

Classroom Policy:

Grading Policy:

No assignments will be accepted more than two weeks late. Late assignments are penalized 25%, and assignments two weeks late are penalized 50%. Plan to spend approximately six to eight hours each week working on laboratory assignments.

You are expected to read each assigned project prior to the lecture. Lectures will be short, to the point, and will discuss the highlights of the Project for that week. Most of the class time will be spent working on your Laboratory assignments.

Weekly Laboratory assignments can only be handed in immediately BEFORE lecture begins the following week. Laboratory assignments handed in after lecture begins the following week are considered late.

Make sure your name and exercise numbers appear in the upper-left corner. If an exercise has multiple sheets, then staple them together. Do not staple different assignments together. Disorganized assignments (pages out of order, mislabeled, unreadable, etc.) will receive zero points. If your assignment is multiple sheets, sequence it according to the order of the exercise.

Tests: Tests represent 64% of the final grade.

Lab Assignments: Lab assignments and practice tests represent 36% of the final grade. Although the laboratory assignments comprise only 36% of a grade, a student can receive a final grade no greater than a D if more than three laboratory assignments are not completed. Laboratory assignments receiving less than 50% are incomplete.

Extra Credit: You may complete any Cases and Places exercise at the end of a project to receive up to a maximum of 10 points. Each Cases and Places exercise must come from a different project. Extra credit will not be accepted late.

Grading Scale:

90 – 100   A
80 - 89   B
70 - 79   C
60 - 69   D
Below 60   F

Test Make-up Policy: Three online examinations will be given. No make-up exams will be allowed without prior arrangements being made. Make-up exams must be taken when scheduled.

To prepare for examinations, attend lecture and read the chapters. At least 90% of the questions are taken directly from the reading material. Review the Chapter Review Questions, Multiple Choice Questions and Important Terms sections at the end of the chapters on which you are being tested.

If you are absent or late, you are responsible for getting the course notes, handouts, and laboratory assignments you missed.

Students with Disabilities: Kent State University recognizes its responsibility for creating an institutional climate in which students with disabilities can succeed. In accordance with University Policy, if you have a documented disability, you may request accommodations to obtain equal access and to promote your learning in this class. Please contact Robert Brindley, Coordinator, Academic Services and Career Planning, in room A104 or at or at (330) 339-3391 ext. 47433. After your eligibility for accommodations has been determined, you will be given a letter which, when presented to an instructor, will help that instructor know how best to assist you.
