Here are some pictures from my Civil War battlefield tours in Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.

The Union soldier monument at Antietam National Cemetary near Hagerstown, Maryland just outside of Washington, D.C. I went there on a tour in 1996 on my way to the United States Memorial Holocaust Museum. This towering figure watches over the soldier's graves vigilantly.

The main Virginia monument at the enormous battlefield in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania situated by the infamous Pickett's Charge. In this area, more than 10,000 Confederate soldiers marched across open fields to meet their unenviable fate, death in battle.
This episode of the American Civil War would forever be known as the High Watermark of the Southern Confederacy.

The Eternal Peace Memorial at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. It was dedicatied on the 75th anniversary of the battle by President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
By 1938, film technology was capable of recording the event.

The Confederate monument at the Fredericksburg, Virginia Battlefield commemorating the heroism of Richard Rowland Kirkland, known as the Angel of Marye's Heights.
Kirkland went out among the wounded and distributed water to soldiers in need from both sides.

This image is of the Thomas J. Jackson monument at Bull Run battlefield, nicknamed Stonewall after the battle because he valiantly stood his ground against a Union charge when others retreated.

Bull Run National Battlefield is located in Manassas, Virginia outside of Washington, D.C.
