Identifications (5 points each)

Each student will answer six identifications from a list of twelve that will be chosen from those listed below.  The twelve will be chosen by the instructor.  Be sure to think about the questions who, what, when, why, where and the significance as you formulate your answers.

Essays (35 points each)

Each student will answer two out of four long essay questions that will be chosen by the instructor from the list below.  Be sure to answer in detail, remembering to give examples, define terms and illustrate as needed.

 

  1. As nomadic peoples began to settle down and form civilizations explain some of the things that changed in their daily lives.  Be sure to discuss which ones you think were the most significant changes and why.
  2. Explain what types of sources we use today to understand ancient civilizations and give at least three specific examples of these sources and what they tell us.
  3. Explain the importance of the Nile River to ancient Egyptian society. 
  4. Explain the basic beliefs of either the Hindus or the Buddhists as they first developed in India.
  5. Explain the different views the River Valley civilizations had toward death and how this was expressed in their societies.
  6. Discuss the importance of animals to two of the early civilizations.  Be sure to talk about which animals had significance and why.
  7. Compare and contrast the roles of women in two of the early civilizations.  Be sure to give specific examples.
  8. Why did these early civilizations all develop around water sources and how did that influence their growth and development?
