Essays ( 35 points each)

Students must answer two out of four essay questions chosen from the list below by the instructor. Be sure to answer in full detail, giving examples, defining terms etc..

 

  1. Explain Russia's main efforts at Westernization-what changes did they try to make and how successful were the Romanov's?
  2. What are the key changes occurring in Japan after 1600? What role did the West play in Japan's changing society?
  3. Discuss the Columbian or Biological Exchange. Explain what kinds of things were exchanged and the effects this had on both worlds.
  4. Discuss the importance of the Protestant Reformation to the overall changes taking place in the world. How did this movement encourage change and what was Martin Luther's role?
  5. Explain the growth and decline of one of the following empires, focusing on the structure of their government, military, religious and social life.
