“Elaborating Textual Resources for Network-Based Information Retrieval.” Studied the Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML) and developed a formal description for a full-text database of the student newspaper. Edited the database to confrom to the structure, indexed it with commercial software and developed a web-based interface to the database for search and retrieval.

Administered the planning, implementation, and support of computer and networking systems for Libraries and Media services, with additional support for the School of Library and Information Science and the Institute for Bibliography and Editing. Coordinated and oversaw OhioLINK system implementation and migration from NOTIS to Innopac; design and installation of network infrastructure to replace IBM mainframe terminal network in the Main and branch libraries; deployment of PCs to replace IBM mainframe terminals; and establishment of Web site for Libraries and Media Services.

Worked with two universities (Universidad Panamericana and Universidad Monseñor Oscar Arnulfo Romero), providing support for library systems and network development. Developed web-based public catalog for ISIS databases in CEPAL-derived formats common in El Salvador. Helped refine curriculum plan for bachelor’s level library science program at Panamericana. Advocated for inter-library cooperation through formal and informal channels.
1999 USIA Office of Citizen Exchanges Project
Managed production of a Russian-language International Business CD-ROM developed by Russian professors for use in Russian university courses and business outreach programs and travelled to Russia to demonstrate product at three universities.

Helped design and taught techniques for developing a Web-based tutorial for the libraries' online catalog during two two-week visits (September and November). Also prepared a brief report in response to an ad hoc request for advice on library automation options.

Traveled to China for three weeks and lectured at four universities and a public library in three cities. See "Presentations" below.
1989/91 Library Automation Consultant, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki
Participated in faculty exchange between Kent State University and Aristotle University, Fall semester of 1989. Oversaw the first OCLC installation in Greece (cataloging and ILL). Negotiated trial installation of mainframe online library system from the University of Crete and advised libraries on short to medium term automation efforts. Provided technical support for microcomputer systems. Follow-up visit in May 1991.
