In some cases it does. The activities that helped me understand statistics is when we do the problems together as a class. The least helpful might be the lectures online. I don't use those because I block them out when I listen. I'll find something to do while I'm listening and then I just don't pick up any of the words. Anyways I don't have an ipod thing so I would have to sit at my computer and listen to it. I do better phyiscally sitting in class because if I'm there then I can mentally be there too.]
[
Lecture 123]
[
Nothing]
[
?]
[
none]
[
I just think that the way the lecture slides are set up is a little hard to follow. Maybe the professor can go into more detail on the slides.]
[
When trying to talk openingly]
[
not doing practice problems and trying to explain how to do something without more than a couple problems to go along with it.]
[
Really all the activites help its just when i dont look over the notes i get confused but thats my fault.]
[
nothing]
[
the group activities were sometimes frustrating]

That thing I spent $20 for.It doesnt work with my computer and I really dont understand why I have to have it, I attend class so it was a waste of my money.]

[
large group activities, the more people in a group the harder it is to co-operate and learn.]

[
i get confused with some of the example problems at times...but it helps to go over them on-line]

With this information, if you daze off and miss a key point, one could be lost for the rest of the session.]

Being in such a large class]
[
Kids in class not participating]

[
When we do extra credit assignments, it seems as if the smarter kids will do the work because I, for example, don't understand right away and cannot help as much.]
[
lecture about topics too fast when we dont know what they are yet]

Well there were nothing of that source. If you had a question it will always get answered with explaination to back the answer up]

[
lecture123]
[
It is difficult to be able to immediately answer complexed questions over topics that were presented to us just 60 seconds ago. If I was unengaged it is because I need time to go over what was just presented in order to effectively comment on it. Unfortunately most of our Extra Credit points were based on this "hurry up and answer" method.]

Mainly during lecture sometimes. More so its the material of the class, it doesnt always catch my attention.]
[
In class group assignments]
[
Notes that we took that we didnt need for the test or quizzes.]
[
nothing thus far has been unhelpful.]
[
The instructor going through every power point.]

The luxury of having the lectures online also creates a feeling that I don't need to focus all the time.]

[
there wasn't anything that didn't help me]
[
None. I am just tired when I am uninvolved in class.]
[
quizzes]
[
The times I was most uninvolved in class were probably the classes that I missed. I've missed about 2 or 3 classes so far this semester and the extra credit we do in class therefore doesn't help me. I do however appreciate the fact that I can go back and listen to the lectures online and I know I won't miss any of the important material that I missed in class.]
[
Once again using his well organized slides are very beneficial to help you when your struggling.]
[
everything is helpful]

[

[
A couple times when we did group activities, nobody knew how to start the problem because it was such new material.]
[
I really don't feel disengaged in class. If we're not discussing the topic then we're practicing what we've discussed. There's no time in a class period to be disengaged!]
[
none really, all of them helped me out]

[
Dont have]
[
evrything was very helpful]
[
There really wasn't any times in this class where I was disengaged. Speaking from other classes though, other than this one, boring and monotone instructors hinder my ability to learn.]

22. What has been your experience with group activities? Do they add to the learning experience? How would you improve them?

[
Seems to me that you end up with one person doing all the work and everyone else just sits there.]
[
Yes, I would like more individual help from instructor during group work]
[
they have been helpfull...they do add to the learning experience...Make sure that the students know what they are doing to going to count for extra-credit they will be more involed and take the group activity more seriously.]
[
It was great. It made me learn a lot from other students and share eqaul doubts and knowledge]
[
we didn't work in groups so i dont know]
[
They could be better, but they do help, and i would just have people in the class get to know eachother more.]
[
they don't help]
[
I sometimes like them, a lot is dependent on the other members of the group.]
[
They make the class more personal.]
[
I like working in groups, just not too large of groups because then one or two people will work on it while the others just sit around and wait for the answer.]
[
Yes they add to my learning experience, maybe create different groups every time in order to get different students perspectives.]
[
they help a lot and i like the extra credit you get]
[
I did enjoy some aspects of the group work.]
[
The group activities are good and allow people to work together in figuring out the problems.]
[
I think it was confusing b/c one person would do everything and not explain what they were doing...I would make it so each person in a group has to do a different part so that everyone sees how the steps tie together.]
[
None]
[
unsure]
[
Yes]
[
Group activities help the learning process just because other students are there to help.]
[
I dont think that the group activities enhanced my learning experience anymore then it would have without it]
[
I don't know, I haven't done one.]
[
the group experience is great, their is atleast one person that knows what they are doing and they can better explain something that i am confused on. assign the groups at the beginning of the semester.]
[
Some of them are pointless i.e. group activities of 8]
[
yes, because we are able to help each other out on things that one understand.]
[
yes they add, i would make the groups smaller]
[
I enjoy working in groups, so I think that we should do more. Even if it is not for extra credit.]
[
yes they do help me]
[
I don't think working in groups helps all that much, but the YDI's are extremely important for learning the material. I don't really know how to improve them, since I don't particularly like working in groups, anyways.]
[
Yes they add to the experience. We have only done a few inclass, but it makes you pay attention to the lectures and make sure you understand it because you want to get the credit for the assignment]
[
They have been very helpful.]
[
They really didnt accomplish much...it would be easier just working by ourselves and ask for help from others if we need it.]
[
It seems that someone is usually the work mule and everyone else just leeches off of them. I'm not sure theres any way to fix that]
[
I liked the group activities in class better because I learn more through my peers. I believe they do add to the learning experience and my improvement for them would be that it should happen more in class.]
[
No I do not think that group activities add to the learning experience because there is always one person that does all the work and everyone else just sits back]
[
They do add to the learning experience, but sometimes we are not even sure how to begin the problem and cannot get started.]
[
i think they are somewhat annoying but do help.]
[
Yes I feel that group activites have added to my learning experience because I have grown from the knowledge of other in my group. There isn't much that can be done to improve group work.]
[
the group activities are fine]
[
They are good for the extra credit but there are so few people who understand or try to understand the material that one person gets stuck figuring out the problems. Maybe try smaller groups if the activity allows for it.]
[
Group activities are well organized and work well.]
[
I personally dislike group activites, I don't like depending on other people for my grade.]
[
they help as long as someone knows what they are doin, but not completly necessary]
[
no one knows what to do exactly, it is not something that i enjoy]
[
they havent added, theres really nothing you can do to improve them....these activities are on the students and if they do not want to participate in them then they will not.]
[
n/a]
[
They are good. They do add to the experience because you can talk to others and see how they do it.]
[
Yes they added to my learning experience]
[
Not good, too confusing.]
[
I dont like them because someone always trys to get the answeres and not participate. Single is the best way to work.]
[
Group activities are good and the extra points is an added bonus.]
[
A necessary evil.]
[
awesome]
[
i like groups because we can work together to figure out the problems]
[
The group activities are great. they are really helpful]
[
dont like them]
[
I dont personally like groups]
[
I like the group activities alot because you can learn alot from the other students in class and you can see the problem worked out after you tried to tackle it yourself]
[
group activities are helpful but somewhat hinder the online experience]
[
Don't like group activities]
[
They we're fairly helpful]
[
My experiance with group activities were not as sucessful because most people didnt understand the concepts and did not work together to try and help each other understand.]
[
Group activities I think are always good to get others ideas and inputs.]
[
The are good but i think we need to be in the same groups everytime so we are more comfortable with the people we work with]
[
They help because there are more people to figure out the problem.]
[
they are helpful b/c they allow you to talk through the process. as with any group project it can depend on group members]
[
Group activies help, but only when i work to understand each step, which is diffucult when working in groups sometimes.]
[
it was easier to work in groups of around 5, it seemed like if the group was too big it became harder to work together and come up w an answer that everyone agreed with]
[
They dont work well in large classes, they should be saved for the smaller classes. They can be great, but in a class our size, they are chaotic and ineffective.]
[
I like the group activities, it helps you to understand the material when you discuss it with other peers.]
[
no group activities please]
[
They have worked out well because we helped each and came up with a more correct answer.]
[
yes working in groups is very benefical. they do add to my learning experience.]
[
they help me learn]
[
they helped me understand the concepts]
[
yes, because we're able to put our heads together and it actually helps out when someone explains to me how they may have done something.]
[
Yes. I love the group activities. It helps you understand a lot of the information. You are able to discuss it with other classmates and get feedback on a lot of the material.]
[
I think they add to the experience if the groups are not so big to where not everyone can see the work being written down for them.]
[
Some did, some didn't. I felt that large group ones a few people did all the work and the rest didn't contribute. When it was groups of two or three, it helped a lot to get through some of the hard material.]
[
Yes they add to the learning experience but sometimes its frustrating when we cant figure it out so we just sit there.]
[
I enjoy the group activities and believe that they help with the learning experiences because you get feedback from others and see how they figure certain problems out. I would improve them by giving us more time to work on the problems.]
[
group activities have aided, but some students expect others to do all the work.]
[
they don't really add because one person kind of does all the work it seems sometimes, or everybody is lost]
[
Yes they are great. Make people have the same groups everytime.]
[
the group activites are helpful, as individuals we may not be able to get the problem, but as a group, everyone can attribute some knowelege or concept that they undstand and we can get the problem done]
[
It is like any group work, some do more work then others, but the task is accomplished by all members.]
[
no others don't believe that you know the right answers]
[
i loved them. interacting is good for me]
[
good, yes, yes]
[
I like group activities...more of them would help]
[
it helps me understand concepts better]
[
yes it helps me by forcing me to do it myself and if i don't understand i have the oppertunity to discuss it with others in the class]
[
Good, I love the extra credit part being a reward for going to class.I can feed off of other kids knowledge and they can feed off mine if we are unclear about something.]
[
I like working in groups, not only for the extra credit, but sometimes I just need someone to tell me their own way of doing something and that is how I have really mastered some of the concepts in class by learning it from another students point of view.]
[
I really like group activities; they definately add to the learning experience in class because if you don't throughly understand a concept then more than likely someone in your group does. No improvements needed, as far as I can tell right now.]
[
I dont like them but I learn better by myself, others seem to confuse me if they are stupid.]
[
They are helpful sometime, and they do usally add to the learnig experience. I would improve them by making sure everyone is involved in try to find the answer. You can do this by having the group tell you if someone does not try to help.]
[
I only listen online, I don't go to class]
[
Yes, working in groups helps a lot. Going over the answer after we are done working in groups would be more helpful to know whether we did the problem correctly.]
[
The group activites were good because it made me realize that other people might have the same problem i am having so then i it made it easier to ask questions in class.]
[
I like them, I actually learn from them a great deal. I don't think I could improve them, just do them a little more.]
[
I think the group activities were good. They gave us a chance to work with other students that were still in the process of learning things just as I was. And if there was something that somebody did not understand there were other people there to help explain it to them. Maybe they had a different way to explain it and you could understand it better.]
[
it's okay. the person in the group that knows how to do it does the work and the rest give input.]
[
They help alot!!!]
[
Yes--helping others helps me and I feel that sometimes a student can help me understand the material in a differnt way the prof does.]
[
I think they are good because some people don't understand everything on their own at the time, and others can help. It is a little disorganized, maybe the computer should randomly select people or something for groups because when it comes to turning things in, it gets complicated and turns out to be more work for the instructor to put a 100 names in.]
[
I like the way they are]
[
i have been only listening to the lectures online because I live so far away and this is my only class on t th so I haven't participated in group activities]
[
I liked the group work. It was good to get bonus points that I need. I don't do as well with tests and the like best I have a hard time focusing when I'm by myself. This helped me understand what I was doing and helps my grades. Much appreciated!]
[
Good experiences. I was able to look for help and also help others in my group.]
[
Yes they help.]
[
They were good, yes]
[
yes they do because they let us interact with each other and get different advis on how to do the problems]
[
They definately add to the learning expierience. Group collaboration is definately beneficial.]
[
Too big is not as helpful]
[
Yes I think they add alot to the learning experience. Talking about a problem outloud helps you to digest it more.]
[
Yes i think doing them in groups help out because if one doesnt understand there are others to explain it to them.]
[
They are good]
[
The group activites added more to the class when we did problems as an entire class as opposed to doing problems in small groups. The group problems usually just ended in confusion and frustration.]
[
group activities work very well because different people can explain the material in several different ways]
[
n/a]
[
They are ok.]
[
sometimes, depending on the material]
[
I don't really like the group activities, because everyone was talking and it was hard to figure out the problem as a group in a lecture hall.]
[
They are okay but they're not that much help.]
[
They help me learn some concepts and pointed me in the right direction on others. There a good idea and it helps when bonus points are awarded because it gives the group motivation to do the work as best as they can.]
[
Havn't really been to any]
[
They add to the learning experience and its nice to work with people]
[
they are helpful]
[
They are extremely beneficial and they definitly add to the learning experience, and I would not improve upon them.]
[
they're o.k.]
[
yes, impove by having more group activites]
[
Somewhat, and I believe they do not need to be changed.]
[
they added to the learning experience because we helped eachother to come up with the answer]
[
good idea]
[
The group work is helpful. It allows minds to come together to solve the problems, whereas independent thinking is solely limited to my own mind, which might not always be enough.]
[
i think they have been great.. i not only got an understanding of the material but met peers in my class. we made study groups for our quizzes and exams.]
[
I love the group activities.]
[
I dont attend class]
[
In any type of course that deals math, I never like group activities. I do not feel comfortable in my understanding of the subject.]
[
Yes they help. If the people in the group really participate.]
[
One person always ends up doing the work without explaining the answers to others.]
[
i dont think the group activities help because either no one knows what they're doing or one person knows and does the whole problem]
[
yes, they add by more input.]
[
Group activities are good, they help. I would improve them by making smaller groups.]
[
I like the group experience and yes I do learn from them. I would not change them at all.]
[
They help me better understand the material better.]
[
Yes, smaller groups though.]
[
yes bc they put you in a hands on learning experience and the others members of the group help to dismantle any questions i might have had]
[
With small groups 2-4 people they have been benificial with larger groups not so much.]
[
no the people i work with don't seem to work together so it ends up being individually done]
[
group activities help]
[
the group activities help me learn more when the people around me know what they are doing. they can help me understand and explain things in a different way that the teacher]
[
I think they can have a positive or negative effect, depending on how involved with the group's work one is. Could improve by having every person turn in their own paper, encouraging more students to be an active member of a given group.]
[
Good I learn from others]
[
Negative No Not have them]
[
As stated before, the kids that know what they are doing just do all of the work.]
[
they were beneficial]
[
The experience with the group activities has been wonderful so far. Yes they added on to the learning experience because you learn different ways on handling the problem and if you don't understand they can help you figure out what you are doing wrong.]
[
They're semi-helpful in class. I think the activities are fine just the way they are.]
[
Not very much. It turns into more of a copy off of one person activity. I think they would help more helpful if it were independent activities and then went over as a class.]
[
fun,improved alot]
[
a positive experience. Because we got to put our knowledege together and work out a solution. We all helped each other. I would improve them by you making us write out our work THEN you showing us the worked out answer and then on the same paper we will cross out our mistakes, but leaving our original problem on the paper to show you what we did wrong.]
[
ive never been there when we had to work in groups]
[
I think that they worked pretty effectively. I felt that subject matter I was unclear about before group work got explained better either durig the actual group work itself or shortly after during the explanation of the problems reviewed.]
[
they have been helpful as long as someone understands what is going on.]
[
VERY GOOD AND HELPFUL]
[
no not really, when everyone is unclear of what we're doing, it doesn't help.]
[
As an individual, I do better without groups. Too often the overwhelming majority of the students in the group are just as clueless as I am (for the time being). This set of circumstances makes it impossible to gain any positive learning from the groups.]
[
yes the group activities are very helpful]
[
I think they help me learn better]
[
Learning experience, but you don't need to do it all the time.]
[
I liked the group activities, they helped me to understand certain concepts.]
[
They have been very beneficial, the only improvement would be having more of them.]
[
Do not like group activities. Would prefer to work with you, step by step is nice and understandable.]
[
I have an indifferent attitude towards group activities. I'm a person that likes to go home and work on stuff so I have unlimited time to do it. When I'm in class I like to listen to instructors and think on my own.]
[
I like the group activities. It makes the things we just learned become concrete.]
[
I do not like group assignments.]
[
yes they helped a lot. I would try to participate more often though.]
[
I add to the learning experience but do not like them]
[
yes they add to the learning experience because it makes me teach others and reenforce the information in my head]
[
yes i liked the group activities, the extra credit is wonderful too.]
[
Sometimes they add learning experience, and sometimes only one person understands what is going on and you everyone else is so lost. The way I would help improve the groups is just to make sure that everyone in the groups knows what is going on. Also, putting people in groups instead of having them find there own groups works very well also.]
[
They are nice for the extra credit, but as far as learning more from them, i dont think so. Going back to the online features is what really helps me.]
[
The group activities don't help because they are different from the quiz and exam questions.]
[
I like doing group activities because you can see others points of view ]
[
yes. i enjoy them. We learn from one another and are forced to think independently. I think you need a better classroom more designed for group work.]
[
Overall I've had a good experience with the group activities, and yes they have added to my learning experience. I would not aprove upon them, they are fine the way they are.]
[
The group activities work very well because if you don't understand something the others are able to give you a different explanation that sometimes helps.]
[
I love group activities becuase I am not one to ask questions in class and this gives me the chance to talk with other classmates]
[
I did not like them, I haven't been there for most.]
[
Some add to the learning experience, it depends if others around help.]
[
they really have not affected my understanding positive or negatively]
[
yes they help the most]
[
i like them, i think they would be more effictive though if we did them in smaller groups, that way there is more than just one or two ppl per group working on it]
[
I have participated in group activities in class and they add to the learning b/c if i dont understand they can help show me.]
[
Group activities in large lecture halls do not improve my learning. If anything, groups should be assigned outside of class as some sort of project.]
[
Yes]
[
Not really, some people don't take the class very seriously and they just talk about other stuff, not the class material.]
[
Yes, because it helps to learn.]
[
I have no response for my experience with group activities I am neutral, there has not been much in class.]
[
they definitely help and need no improvement]
[
They help a lot nothing really to im prove on]
[
not bad, yes, maybe make everyone turn in a copy so everyone has to write it down themselfs instead of just sitting there doing nothing and getting a grade for it ]
[
they reinforce my learning when I already know what is going on, but they can be improved by being more organized]
[
Don't like group activities. I don't like people]
[
i liked them alot]
[
they helped]
[
I learn better from group activites. It's easier to learn the material, and when I get stuck there are peer to help me.]
[
they're good]
[
I wasnt in group activities]
[
The group activities work well and really help me to learn.]
[
group activities help because it's easier to work a problem through for the first time with the help of someone else]
[
It helps to work with peers.]
[
they do not help me. No one seems to really know what is going on. If one person does then they do all the work and do not explain what they are doing.]
[
They helped because you get to learn from others and they can sometimes help when you don't understand something.]
[
I believe sometimes they do add to my learning experience if the members in the group actually want to do the work. I like how the group work is extra credit because then the students actually want to do the work in the groups.]
[
I like group activities cause usually my question is answered there]
[
i think they're ok as is]
[
They are helpful]
[
i like them, it gives us a chance to see what we know and learn form eachothers mistakes.]
[
the group activities helped me out a lot]
[
The group activities are all right. It helps me sometimes because someone else is explaining how to work the problem other than the teacher. And if I understand it I can explain it to someone else. I guess the only thing is that there are people who just don't want to participate, and they shouldn't have to. Just don't give the loners any credit or let them work by themselves.]
[
none]
[
I enjoy the group activites very much. It gives us a hands on experience on what we're learning about in class that day. It also helps us to socialize with our classmates which helps in the long run if we ever need to talk to them about something we may or may not understand and they in turn can help us out.]
[
Yeah because sometimes the question he asks are complicated and it is nice to have the opinion of another person.]
[
yes. they added to my learning]
[
I think they helped me learn the most out of everything else we did.]
[
I THINK THEY ARE GOOD, BUT COULD BE BETTER IF WE HAD MORE TIME]
[
I think they really do]
[
I find that group activities tend to work best when responsibilities are given out at the beginning rather then aggregated and given out to the whole group to distribute as they see fit.]
[
It depends who is in your group, though I have found that sometimes other people can help you figure out new ways of looking at how to work a problem.]
[
Group activities do help a lot! It's nice to get bonus for practice.]
[
n/a]
[
add to learning experience]
[
they work to an extent, but generally one or two people benefit and the rest just get the credit]
[
I like doing group activities and yes they add to my learning experience. Not much to improve them, doing them in groups of 5 to 8 people is perfect.]
[
they have been great and have given me a better understanding of the material]
[
No real group activities]
[
Not bad, if you don't know how to figure something out, someone else usually can.]
[
Well since not everyone in the groups gave their opinion or thoughts it didnt add to the learning experience nor did it take away from it.]
[
do not add learning experience, i learn better on my own]
[
They add to the experience more then I thought they would. What is there to improve?]
[
group activities like in all classes put you in a hard situation to do well for the group depite weaker links in the chain.]
[
they have been great!!]
[
Yes, but everyone in the group should have to write everything out on paper instead of just one person to keep everyone involved and paying attention.]
[
I like them, do them more often]
[
Yes I think group activities add to the learning experience. They improve the learning experience because everyone learns at their own pace so by doing group work the people who are stronger at the material can help the others learn the material. Sometimes its easier understanding something from a fellow peer than a teacher.]
[
good, yes I learn a lot better when we do group activities, sometimes if you get different people's way of looking at things it can become easier]
[
they really help. it makes it easier to ask questions.]
[
They have been ok. I think if you help start the problem and then let us go. It might be more efficient. Then give us another problem in which we must work the whole thing out.]
[
I love the group activities. If we didn't do them I'd be lost. I also feel it's a great way to have the class help each other. The old saying "to learn is to teach..."]
[
i like the group activities, they add to my learning and give me experience]
[
i would say i don't really enjoy group work as much b/c when you're in a big group its hard for everyone to participate and it can become frustrating at times]
[
group activities are great, i learn a lot from other piers.]
[
i do not like them, and i think you should give us the choice to work alone ]
[
I like group activities!]
[
the group work was great i learned a ton. ]
[
The group activities I wouldn't change because since we can choose who we want to group with things are more comfortable, rather than having to introduce yourselves to one another before you start.]

23. What has been your experience with the instructor so far? What aspects of the instructor's teaching have been positive? What aspects would you ask to him to improve on?

[
Humor is used to compliment boring material, and that alway helps.]
[
Good. I like the extras he gives online. More elaboration on examples in class would be helpful.]
[
Hes been great...Positive...More explanations of the actual concepts of what we are doing and how we can apply them to are daily lives]
[
Awesome]
[
speaking english better becouse sometimes i dont understand]
[
He is a great teacher that makes me laugh and i have a great time in his class. Shanker is very helpful and I dont think there is much he can change.]
[
Good teacher funny needs to bring the subject matter closer to things we understand/do]
[
Pleasent, willing to listen and gives explanations.]
[
Everything from the instructor has been positive. The humor involved is especially good because it takes away from some of the stress I feel when trying to understand the material.]
[
I like Shanker. I think he's a good teacher and he really wants us to learn the material and do well. The only thing he needs to work on is being patient because the material is hard and sometimes we don't know an answer to one of his questions and he'll get frustrated.]
[
Good, I really like his sense of humor as well as his willingness to change and slow down to go over more difficult concepts. I would ask to give more time for in class activities so I can actually think about it before the answer is given to me.]
[
i like him. he is very funny and explains things good as well]
[
Overall i enjoy the instructor]
[
Very good. Helps to interpret the information in the notes.]
[
I think the instructor is very good at explaining things and is receptive to students questions. I would just improve the group activities.]
[
I think the instructor is very straightforward and does the best job he can.]
[
the instructor goes over material as many times as needed until everyone understands]
[
Pretty good sometimes are to understand difficulty explaining material sometimes but overall very good]
[
He's a caring teacher and he goes above and beyond what is expected.]
[
I think the instructor is a good one so far.]
[
I like him a lot. He is very entertaining so I can pay attention. No need for improvement.]
[
i like the fact that i can go on the computer and see the class if i missed that gives everybody a fair chance to get the notes.]
[
He is a good teacher. he takes the time to make sure that we understand the information. he helps us.]
[
Very good instructor Positive problem solving in class ]
[
Very respectful and eager to help us learn.]
[
yes i enjoy the approach the teacher takes]
[
I think the instructor is very good in trying to make the class palatable to the class. He makes the class interesting with humor and goes to extra lengths to try to make sure they understand the material, e.g, class problems and Lecture123.]
[
Overall its been a positive experience. He keeps good attention throughout the lecture hall. No need for improvement.]
[
He is smart and organized.]
[
Very good teacher. Very good.]
[
Mr shanker's funny and knows the material really well. What's kind of obnoxious is how the tests are from the class, yet insanely twisted. I'll sit there in class and understand new material, but I'll think to myself "wonder how the test is gonna reword this to be vague"]
[
My experience with the instructor is ok. Positives about my instructor would be that I like that he records his lectures and gives us an opportunity to print out what he has written on his notes in class. His humor is fun too. Improvements on the instructor would be to use more group time. Have students solve problems in a group more often. and to not always assume that we know what the answer is even if it is in front of us. find other ways of explaining how to solve a problem. or find other ways in explaining the concept of the problems/ideas.]
[
My experience with the instructor is that he is a very good professor and I think that his teaching styles are great. Everything is positive with the extra learning tools that he provides. I think that he can improve in explaining some concepts a little bit better so that the students can understand.]
[
Its been a good experience. The instructor gives great help and reviews and practice problems online and takes any and all questions.]
[
i like the instructor, all aspects of teaching has been positiv eso far. nothing needs improvement.]
[
I feel that the instructor is very good, he knows the material well and know what he is talking about. He gives a lot of examples and helps the students understand what they are doing wrong. One thing I would ask him to improve on is his attitude towards students on occasion. He is sometimes condesending to people in the class that don't know what is going on, however, some people deserve that.]
[
he makes it interesting because he is enthusiastic when he teaches]
[
The instructor shows a great deal of understanding for the students and brings humor to the class. I think everyone enjoys a lecture more when the professor is more laid-back. I dont really think there is much he can improve on; considering the size of his lectures I feel that he is doing more than his fair share as far as helping students to undersatnd.]
[
He is extremely helpful and always there to answer any questions that you have. He'll go over one thing as many times as you need him to until you understand it fully.]
[
The instructor is very funny! He is also thorough and clear.]
[
everything has been positive]
[
he is very funny, and overall teaches the class very well]
[
He's a pretty funny person]
[
online reviews. he needs them.]
[
Good. Humerous and he knows his stuff.]
[
It's been a good experience]
[
Good instructor very knowledgeable on subject matter]
[
The instructor has been good. He has made it easy to understand the fundementals of statistcs and has made it easy to continue study it.]
[
Very interesting teacher, uses humor to keep interest.]
[
I am very pleased.]
[
good professor]
[
he needs to drop his accent]
[
He's a real good teacher, although I have trouble understanding his english sometimes.]
[
hard to understand]
[
Very upbeat, fun to listen too, he knows his statistics]
[
I love my experience so far, Mr. Shanker is awesome! He is always very helpful in answering any questions or concerns that we have. He is willing to do anything and everything he can so that we as students learn the material. He is also very personable and funny and that makes the class enjoyable.]
[
the instructor is very good, would prefer to see some full worked out examples in the notes though, not requiring sitting through a lecture]
[
Good instructor]
[
He is a very good instructor, the examinations are a little difficult but I would recommend him to other students.]
[
this is my second time taking stats and the first time was really difficult for me because the first instructor only feed us definitions and formulas. This time I got an A on the first exam because i wasnt rushed in taking notes , I was able to listen and to a lecture and practice problems with the instrutor which helped when i studied on my own]
[
Murali is awesome. He really makes sure you understand the material well, and is always accomadating to make sure that you are doing well.]
[
He is a good instructor, explains things well. May need to slow down during the lecture a little bit]
[
none]
[
i like that you always write out all steps of the problem (drawing the curve, xbar= etc) i do not like the way that the scores are averaged on the quizes]
[
Thus far my experience with the instructor has been positive. He answers questions and listens to student concerns.]
[
the instructor mixes humor in with his lectures, this makes the experience much more interesting and informative. sometimes he does talk a little fast though.]
[
hes very knowledgeable and has a sense of humor which makes it easier to come to class and pay attention to the lectures, also creates a good atmosphere for learning]
[
I like his teaching methods a lot, the online availability of material is very valuable]
[
The instuctor always takes the time to make sure we understand the material. He is very fair in his grading and is very timely so that you always know where you stand in the class.]
[
no improvement needed]
[
He a smart man and funny. trying to get everyone to understand a concept without losing composure. None]
[
he is very good, and does as much as he can to help the students]
[
i like how he makes humor out of the class. maybe take more time over certain slides]
[
very positive and helpful... very informative and communicative]
[
the instructor makes the learning fun because he is always joking. it's a laid back class.]
[
He actually cares whether the student understands the material or not. Many teachers aren't real conserned about that. He is able to mix in jokes into his lesson plan which defenitly lightens the mood. Examples in class are always a positive, maybe do a few more per class.]
[
The humor has kept class from being monotonous, but much information is still conveyed. I would ask for more problems in class. The online lectures are very helpful and should be continued.]
[
good teaching]
[
The instructor is great. He does his best to educate us. The topic is just extremely difficult and hard to grasp. I would like to do more examples in class and have more practice problems online available to study with.]
[
very good at explaining the material i like the online quiz and tests]
[
I think our teacher is very good. He always is willing to answer questions and never gives up on students even when the subject seems easy to him.]
[
i think he is a very respected and educated man. UNLIKE other previous professors he doesnt have to stare at the book or definitions, he knows them off the top of his head.]
[
the instructor has been very good at conveying information and ideas, also easy to go to if you have problems. the aspects of the course that i feel should be improved are the test questions as they seem almost like trick questions sometimes when compared to the ones we do in class]
[
He has a great sence of humor.. jokes in the middle of learning is always good and keeps things interesting. my brother took u 2 years ago and told me to take u. now i know why]
[
His examples are good.]
[
the instructor has a positive and optimistic attitude which is great for class, but he needs to take time going over the examples... some of us need a step by step approach, not just the answer.]
[
He is very likable, and has an up beat positive attitude, which helps me learn. I can't think of anything at this moment.]
[
the instructor is helpful and provides clear and concise lesson plaNS]
[
he is amazing. i loved his yeaching style and enjoied class.]
[
good, all, none]
[
Great teacher, he is very responsive to students needs.]
[
none]
[
he is very hummurous and i love his teaching style it keeps my atention i think he is verry efficient]
[
I really like the instructor. I like how he puts things online to look at later.I would like for hime to slow donw just a little bit on his examples.]
[
I really like the instructor for this course. Even though some of the concepts we learn aren't the most exciting things to learn about, he lets us work in groups and he usually lets us out early which is nice because I never feel like I am overwhelmed when leaving. He is a good professor.]
[
I really enjoy this instructor because he is very thorough and tries to make sure that no one is left confused. He asks us what our questions are, how can he makes things clearer, better, etc.]
[
So far so good. You have been very understanding with any problems I have had so far.]
[
The instructor is great, he is funny and makes the students want to learn.]
[
I think it is great, he is challenging and entertaining]
[
He makes us try problems on our own in class which is helpful. He moves through material some what fast, and at times is hard to understand. If he would explain concepts in more detail, it would be easier to understand.]
[
MR. Shanker is so funny, cool, and down to earth. lots of teachers get stuck on like a power trip but mr. shanker seems to always be relaxed and having fun.]
[
Good, everything. I don't think there is anything!]
[
I feel the professor is very knowledgeable. He is always willing to help you if you had a problem with something. I think the material is very difficult but he makes it interesting to learn about and easy to understand.]
[
everything is cool so far]
[
Hes a nice guy.]
[
I like the instructors teaching. He makes a boring subject as tolerable as one could imagine]
[
He is very knowledgeable of the subject, and somethings were confusing at first, but he works very hard to clear those things up to anyone in need. He makes himself available, and easily contactable which is very nice, and he works hard to take students' suggestions into consideration.]
[
good teacher, I learned a lot so far]
[
is very helpful and has a clear understanding of the material I feel that the lectures go on sometimes when we cover something too many times]
[
I like his willingness to get us all to participate in the lecture and ask questions. Even though I hate to speak up in class I can later ask online or someone else might ask the same question that I have (which usually happens). I don't know how you would improve it. The material is just really hard for me to understand. I have a hard time with the hypothesis stuff. I love the standard diviation and variance with the z tables. In my weird way, I think that they are fun.]
[
Willing to help me when I asked him. Willing to answer anyq questions. Humerous.]
[
He is a good instructor and he is funny.]
[
?]
[
everything has been very positive so far]
[
I think that the professor has a great personality, it definately helps the class. I think the only overall problem with my learning expierience is the lecture slides, they arnt as detailed as they should be, i believe.]
[
Very kind and willing to help]
[
I think hes a great teacher. He is very positive and funny too. He has improved on things the class has asked him to, like more practice problems and such. He is very good at getting the student what they want and need.]
[
I think that the instructor does a good job of making sure everyone understands the information and that if anyone needs help that can come to him and he will help.]
[
he is funny and helpful]
[
I think the professor's comedic personality helps keep my attention. He always workds hard to simplify the concepts, which can be pretty complex. If there is a definition or concept that is particularly importatnt I think he needs to be clearer in what it means, and how it can be iterpreted in many different ways. This is because sometimes on tests definitions are not as clear cut as they're presented in class.]
[
the instructor is great, explains things very well]
[
The instructor gives good examples, and ideas that he provides for deeper thought and examination. He's one of the better professors in the college of business.]
[
he is funny and keeps the class going, but the material is hard]
[
Very good. Overall he is a very good teacher. No need for improvement, because the use of his technology in the class really made a difference in the learning environment.]
[
I have had a good experience and am impressed with the online part of the course but I would've been happier if the instructor did'nt say a book was not necessary, so that I had something to refer to besides the online stuff.]
[
He is a very good instructor, funny, but serious with a very relaxed class enviroment. Some issues were confusing for me but he tried his best to clear up any problems.]
[
Very organized]
[
He has been a good instructor is very positive. I have nothing negative to say.]
[
he explains concepts well]
[
The instructor is somewhat intimidating at times, I would suggest for him to work on being more approachable.]
[
Very good teacher, good at keeping students interested]
[
Good, can't improve the instructor he already does a great job of explaining the information]
[
I have had a good experience so far. I do not believe he needs to improve on anything. I am very happy with the class and structure thus far.]
[
great teacher who keeps it interesting and add comedy in as well]
[
online is great and efficient]
[
The instructor goes out of his way to make the subject interesting which is very important for a course like Statistics. It would be easy to teach pre-made lectures from the book and give us pre-made exams, but our instructor very obviously goes out of his way to get us to understand the coursework.]
[
i think that he is a wonderful teacher...very approachable! smart guy... and some times doesn't understand that we don't always get what he is talking about!... its okay though because he explains things thoughaly.]
[
I did not get a good vibe at all from the instructor in the course so far at all.]
[
the integration of humor helps break up the monatony of content.]
[
I like this instructor, he knows what he is talking about and how to convey the subject to his students. I am taking this course for a second time because the first instructor had no idea how to teach the subject.]
[
Getting the class involved in the lecture is a positive. Sometimes I get lost while doing the examples. When numbers get written down i might not know how the instructor came to that conclusion.]
[
He is a great instrustor. He is also very helpful.]
[
i was worried about being able to understand him with the accent but it really has not been a problem. he makes class really enjoyable because hes always cracking jokes that are actually funny. he has rules and they have been established and i think we all respect him]
[
positive, humorous and knowledgeable]
[
he is very nice, helpful, and funny which makes the class not so boring]
[
I love my teacher, hes one of the best at Kent. Not only do I learn from him, but he makes class enjoyable and fun. If the class does not understand something, he will make sure we do before he moves on, thats hard to say about other teachers. There is really nothing I would want him to change.]
[
I feel that this instructor has been one of the best teachers i have had at kent state]
[
Has a goal and sets out for it with no distraction. Sometimes distracted by students.]
[
hes very understanding and comical to make the experience more comfortable when asking questions]
[
He trys to make the boreing subject fun with is a big positive.]
[
the way he presents the lectures and tries to make sure everyone understands]
[
positive]
[
i think he is a nice guy and he tries to keep everyone interested in the subject. i think he's positive about everyone's needs when they are trying to learn. i think he cares and he tries to make everyone understand and feel comfortable.]
[
I am very receptive to the instructor's teaching style. He is also receptive of the class's level of understanding most of the time. Seems to get ahead of us occasionally, but is always willing to take a step back and catch everyone up to the same point.]
[
Good, tries new technology to his and students advantage]
[
Excellent Yes Nothing]
[
he keeps the students awake by being funny as well as a good teacher at the same time, he makes class not so boring]
[
I love the instructors sense of humor, I believe that it gets the students interested in listening to him, and it is a way to connect to the students.]
[
he is funny and really tries to get us to beable to understand the material, but i would lecture slower]
[
Well the instructor is a great instructor. Kent State need more professors like him. He keeps you awake in class by joking and making the students laugh.]
[
Positive. Good instructor, tough material.]
[
The instructor seems very willing to help and teach.]
[
Hes funny]
[
Overall you are the best instructor that i have seen engaging with the students. I feel comfortable asking you a question through email or before class. You go out of your way to help the students understand the problems. Nothing to improve, perfectly fine.]
[
i like him he teaches well]
[
I think that he does a good job maintaining learning during class time and does a good job at explaining material while also trying to relate it and himself to the class.]
[
He is very funny and intelligent, however I am not used to his methods of teaching therefore i am having trouble catching on. Also i have been blowing off class.]
[
great instructor great class]
[
Positive teacher, shows that he knows what he is talking about but hard to pass that along to his students.]
[
I perceive the instructor to be a very brilliant man. I have personally researched his website and his various publications. There is no doubting his immense intelligence (probably the most intelligent instructor I have ever had). Unfortunately, this aspect may be a slight flaw in his teaching method. He moves through the material at light-speed, thinking that the rest of the class will have no problem keeping up. The problem with that is that this is an introductory course. And although he has spent many years teaching it, it is likely that for most of the students it is the first time ever being exposed to this sort of material. I think that much learning could be had if the instructor had the patience to slow down a bit.]
[
he is grat and very funny!]
[
My experience has been good. I feel he has been a good instructor and I enjoy being in his classs.]
[
He's a funny man and know's his business stats. The idea of the Learning 123 seems like a good concept but I hear a great deal that a lot of people can't get it to work.]
[
I think that the instructor teaches the class well and is very entertaining.]
[
The instructor goes over many examples in class.]
[
Instructor has been positive, only other thing would be to do more step by step stuff.]
[
He is a great teacher that has found every way to help the students. And I have tried to take advantage of all of it. The fact that he gives on-line quizes and exams allows us to set the time schedule for us to do our work.]
[
Very easy to talk to, resourceful, knows what he is talking about! Slow down a little.]
[
I really like the instructor. He is very knowledgeable and helpful.]
[
i wouldnt ask him to improve anything. the notes online are very helpful in succeeding in the class.]
[
I love this teacher]
[
enjoyable class for the most part]
[
He has been very helpful and understanding of how he can make our learning experience better and more influential.]
[
My experience with the instructor has been great so far, he is funny, easy to talk to, willing to go out of his way to help others and so on. Some aspects he could improve on is maybe slow down some during some of the examples, but overall he has been very impressive.]
[
Maybe taking a little more time going over the problem in class, doing all the steps. If it wasnt for the instructor i doubt i would have stayed in the class.]
[
I like him as a person, but he is hard to understand sometimes and isn't very good at explaining things.]
[
He goes really in depth and easy to understand. Uses good examples.]
[
funny.]
[
Overall he has been helpful with my learning experience in the course, he is very kind, but I would say that he can be a little intimidating in the lectures.]
[
The instructor has been very good, he takes his time to explain the concepts completely so that everyone understands them, and if someone doesn't he will make sure they do before moving on.]
[
I would not change anything]
[
He is a good instructor and explains everything very thoroughly.]
[
no]
[
A very positive experience. Easy to ask questions, realates to class well.]
[
I like everything and we went to eat together where we discussed some non-class issues that were important to me.]
[
i think that hes a good professor and he really seems to care about helping us understand this stuff and doing examples or reexplaining the points people dont get, he was definately more effective than the other one was.]
[
He makes sure that everyone is getting it and keeps reviewing the concepts.]
[
He is very funny and nice. Makes a dull subject interesting at times.]
[
Best teacher i have right now]
[
The professor has been great, he is very helpful and answers questions. He is very clear when he explains concepts that are hard to understand.]
[
Very good instructor.]
[
The experience has been a positive one overall, the instructor give lots of examples to simplify the consept for the students to better understand them. But that is not always a good thing the students also need more complex problems in class to better aid with exams.]
[
great guy]
[
I like the class activities and how the quizes are set up i thought there were too few examples in the begining but now its a lot better.]
[
My experience so far has been great, the instructor try's his best to ensure every one is on the same page. His personality makes me want to come to class, he makes a very boring subject interesting. Dont change any thing.]
[
Very good intructor. Has a good sense of humor. Seems to enjoy teacher and has passion for what he is teaching.]
[
he is very smart and he makes the class enjoyable]
[
I love my instructor. He is very intelligent and explains the material in a way that makes sense to me without being boring. He is of the best instructors I have had in the past few years and enjoy his lectures very much]
[
he is a very fun and interesting teacher]
[
He encourages questions and independent thinking. Allowing the class to work in groups is extremely beneficial for me, as well as the availability of lecture recordings and powerpoints. Online quizzes and exams are also helpful.]
[
i like the way the course is taught]
[
He is very understanding and passionate about the subject.]
[
Very good instructor, one of my favorites, very hard topic but overall taught very well taught.]
[
a good experience. the jokes positively add to the class and keep peoples attention to the lecture]
[
I LOVE MY PROFESSOR! He has proven that he really does care about his students and he even took a goup of us to lunch!!]
[
take more time at the more difficult concepts]
[
He was very good and he made class interesting through his jokes.]
[
I really like your teaching style, the course is well organized and you give us a challenge which I enjoy. Yeah the course material is tough but hey that just requires a little more effort on the students part which I have no problem with.]
[
Instructor is funny and cool and knows what he is talking about]
[
very good]
[
Positive]
[
he has been very helpfull and answers all my questions, he even went out of his way to burn me the java program because i couldnt download it, that was cool.]
[
the instructor knew everything he was talking about and taught it to us very well]
[
He is an excellent teacher. I love the fact that he cares enough to answer questions and try to find a way so that everyone can understand it. He listens to what we say or feel. He even brought us candy because we said it would help us focus more rather than talk. That is major for a professor at a university. Mr. Shanker ROCKS!!!]
[
good guy]
[
I think our instructor is one of the best professors Ive ever had. This stuff would be so boring and drawn out if he didnt make it fun which he does very well in doing so. I learn better when im having fun and interested in learning about the things that he teaches and he makes things interesting.]
[
The aspects that I liked about him as a teacher are he is very clear, explains well and is a very funny professor and really have not found anything i don't like about him, he is a pretty fair professor.]
[
everything is good. i like the way he is.]
[
My experience has been positive. I think he could make things more clear. On the day we reviewed for the 2nd exam, I learned more in that class than in any other... I think maybe the instuctor over explains subject matter and in the review, he condensed it more.]
[
WHEN WE TALK ABOUT WHAT CAN BE IMPROVED HE LISTENS AND FIXES IT RIGHT AWAY.]
[
I've found this professor to be extremely open for questions, either during class or using the online system. In fact, he has been especially diligent in answering online questions, which has aided my understanding of the class greatly.]
[
The you do it problems and group activities help to understand the content of the class.]
[
The instructor has done all he can to make sure we understand what we're doing. He constantly asks what more he can do and does what we need help with.]
[
n/a]
[
great]
[

The professor has a very good sense of humor and makes it a joy to go to class. Aspects to improve on may be showing all possible ways to do a problem.
