Notating Plainchant in Sibelius

To write plainchant in Sibelius we will create a measure that fills an entire system.

You will need to plan ahead how many notes will be on each system.

  • Count:

    • black noteheads as a quarter notes

    • dotted black notes as a dotted quarters

    • white noteheads as a half notes.

  • Select Create Time Signature (T) enter the new time signature (could be 56/4)

To change the noteheads to stemless

  • select the passage

  • use the drop-down menu on the Notes panel of the Properties window and select note type 8.

To hide the key signature:

  • Click on the time signature

  • Press delete

  • If a window appears select No (you do not want the bars to be rewritten)
