| Dr.
Alison Smith is a professor in the Geology Department at Kent State University.
She is a paleolimnologist and micropaleontologist, working mostly with
records of climate change that extend through the Holocene (the past 11,500
years). Her study areas include primarily the Great Lakes, the northern
Great Plains, and many wetlands and springs in a variety of localities
in North America. Her research in these areas is funded by the National
Science Foundation and the U.S. Geological Survey.
Dr. Smith holds a B.A. in Anthropology from Wheaton College, Massachusetts, an M. Phil in Archaeology from Cambridge University, England, an M.S. in Geology from the University of Delaware, and a Ph.D. in Geology from Brown University, Rhode Island. Dr. Smith has been teaching at KSU since 1990, and has taught the Oceanography course since 1996. In addition to teaching Oceanography, Dr. Smith teaches Invertebrate Paleontology, Micropaleontology, Cenozoic Climate Change, and Paleolimnology. |
